Diner Reviews
  • "This historic building lends itself well to a memorable dining experience in a cozy setting surround by brick and glass chandeliers. Even though the dining room was filled, the noise level was moderate and made for a pleasant, leisurely dinner. The crab soup was flavorful and full of crab, and the crab cake equally delicious. As for the entrees, my blackened shrimp was just mediocre, and the accompanied risotto was overcooked in my opinion, as it was a bit mushy. My dinner partner commented that he would have liked to have more shrimp and scallops with his pasta considering the cost of the entrée. Two scallops were not enough the price. Our waiter, Scott, did a superb job of managing our table throughout the meal."

  • "My husband and I celebrated his birthday here and we were very happy with our experience. The service was very friendly and attentive. We had jambalaya and Neptune seafood and both were good choices. The portions are large but not overwhelming as they sometimes are. Lovely music provided by a lady singing Cole Porter songs at the piano. Cosy, three hundred year old building has been kept in its original form creating pleasant atmosphere. Relaxed and comfortable with good food and service."

  • "Recently I dined at 17Hundered90 Inn. The obvious draw was the fun ghosties and spooky backstory. The restaurant itself reminded me a bit of an old French restaurant that I dined in that was located undergroud. Pillars and a stone floor add to the cozy feel and slightly creepy ambiance all at the same time. We order a bottle of Malbec, with was very good and had an appitizer if of the Escargot. Which was quite tasty. My date ordered the lamb, which he enjoyed and I got "The Neptune", a huge seafood medley served with hollandaise sauce over the top. I did have to aske for more hollandaise (mine had barley a drizzle). All in all this is a great and fun restaurant! We will definitly be returning!"

  • "We have been to the 1790's bar many times- great place, but this was a first time visit to the resturant. We were not expecting much, but were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food."

  • "Great place for atmosphere, historic building, white linens, etc. the food was good, but nothing special - standard brunch fair. The service was above average this time, attentive, friendly, quick. I will go back and recommend it to others (reservations are advised)."

  • "My husband and I went to the restaurant to celebrate his birthday and we were not disappointed. We had the vegetable soup, a little peppery, but delicious. The fish dish special was superb and we finished of by sharing a bread pudding dessert. We always enjoy a central coast, CA pinot noir and the wine on offer was excellent. Interesting to read about the inn's history and it's ghost stories, didn't see any on this occasion, but one never know's perhaps next time. Our server Stephen was charming. The sound of the pianist in the background just added to the overall effect. Wonderful. Definitely recommend."

  • "This place is definitely for the mature crowd. It is not for those who are looking for a place with vibrant energy. This place has a subtle, subdued energy. It has a very historic feel to it that goes right along with it's history. You really felt like you were stepping back in time with the decor. It was an experience and was not suited to us. Our waiter was great."

  • "We had a very enjoyable meal on a busy weekday evening. Staff coped well with an unexpectedly large number of bookings. While I am not a fan of fried green tomatoes, our red trout and blackened shrimp were very nicely done. Decent wine list. It was overall very good value."

  • "The atmosphere was casual, but romantic with the piano music in the background. Our waiter was friendly and on top on things. The food was excellent and they split the entree for us because we wanted to eat a lighter meal."

  • "The old world character added to the ambience; service was excellent as was the food."

  • "This place was amazing, romantic, and scintillating! We got engaged in the room to the left, when you first walk in. The staff was amazing & the food couldn't have been better. We can't wait to go back every year to celebrate. Loved it!"

  • "This beautiful restaurant had an incredibly romantic atmosphere in an historic setting. There was a piano player who provided lovely background music; however, the service was horrendous. The food was extremely slow which would have been okay except that our waiter forgot we were there. We couldn't get drinks, he promised to get a wine list and didn't, and he completely forgot the ice tea. We called out loudly to get his attention and that didn't even work. When we were finally able to order wine with our dinner it didn't arrive until after the dinner came. The waiter wasn't even apologetic. He acted like we didn't exist. The food was okay, but we expected better for the price."

  • "This place has become quite the stop for tourists. I am a local and was disappointed in the service. We had a reservation and we had to wait for 45 minutes for a table as did most of the other people with reservations. When we walked in servers just stared at us and the three other groups that came in and we waited for at least 15 minutes at the door before someone acknowledged us. The food was so-so but the history of the place makes it worth the visit."

  • "The atmosphere was nice. Server could have been more attentive. Food was very poor, almost uneatable. Way too much salt and pepper. Served bad shrimp, could smell it when they put the plate down so they must have known in the kitchen. Could hear other tables complain about food. Man at table next to us didn't even eat his meal (jambalaya). Overheard waitress tell the man that she had had three previous complaints about that dish that week and even asked the kitchen if they had changed the recipe."

  • "Dinner was great! Becasue there was a large party the kitchen was slammed and we had to wait for our food. We did not get dessert. Although the bread pudding was calling, Leopold's Ice Cream was calling louder! :)"

  • "My wife and I were spending one night in Savannah on our way to Florida and were looking for a good place for dinner. We picked 17Hundred90 off the web. It turned out to be a great choice. We started with a nice salad with fruit and nuts. We ordered the special for the day called Red Trout. It was a large trout fillet, treated with a curry rub and pan seared, served over a rice pilaf with cashews and accompanied by grilled veggies. It was delicious! We finished with pecan pie that was the best either one of us had ever eaten. The server was fantastic, very friendly and knowledgeable. There was a terrific pianist/singer who made the atmosphere sparkle. We will definitely go there again."

  • "Stop for a pre dinner drink in the warm and friendly bar. If you are lucky, you can be seated on the sofas in front of the fireplace. Dining room food is varied, moderately eclectic and quite delicious. Worth taking out of town visitors for a meal."

  • "Steven was most attentive without being intrusive. The live background piano is always perfect, romantic. 17Hundred90 has become our go-to restaurant when we just want a nice dinner out as well as any special occasion. We highly recommend it for its food quality, excellent service and romantic atmosphere. Definitely recommend reservations."

  • "The biscuit that preceded the appetizer course was light and simply stated a decadent pleasure. Crab cake appetizer nicely prepared with a tasty remoulade sauce. Lump crab without much binder was a nice surprise. The Rack of Lamb and Red Snapper were excellent. Risotto needed a bit of work. Mashed potatoes were very nicely seasoned and whipped perfectly. Veggies wre asparagus and green beans both not cooked beyond recognition. Wine list is notable and fairly priced. The waiter Jordan has such a passion for wine and food. He is a star!"

  • "Food was superb - my husband and I both had the crab filet special which was done perfectly as we requested. Our waiter, Ryan , was attentive but yet unobtrusive - a true pleasure. The piano player added real ambience. We would absolutely recommend this restaurant - truly outstanding!"

  • "We went to 17hundred90 for the first time with friends from out of town. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the Innkeeper and our server were both very welcoming. The inn and restaurant are housed in an old historic building which is tucked away on President St, yet walking distance From Bay and River Streets. Our server was very good, there was a very talented pianist playing in the dining room when we arrived, our cocktails were generous and our meals were delicious. My only tiny criticism is that, since there is nothing to absorb any sound in the dining room, the piano seemed a bitt too loud, which made conversation a bit difficult. We will definitely return often."

  • "This was the first restaurant we ate at in town. The place was really romantic (had live piano during dinner). The food was unbelievable, the wait staff was great, and even the bar after was great. All around one of the top places in town."

  • "We were only in town one night and were interested in eating in the historic district. The restaurant is rust around the corner from the Kehoe house just off a small square. As it was a Saturday the street parking was free. Originally booked for 6:15 had no problem changing the time to 5:00 The restaurant is charming - exposed brickwork, nicely proportioned fire place, cosey atmosphere. Piano player not intrusive added a nice ambience. TJ our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable service was well timed.. Selected bacon wrapperd scallops, salmon Oscar, the Neptune, cream pineapple cake and pecan pie a la mode (signature dish). Everything excellent - but the scallops were a triumph!! Best we have EVER eaten - bravo! Very enjoyable experience."

  • "Excellent service and food. My husband and I were in Savannah for a long, romantic weekend getaway. We had always wanted to try this restaurant and we finally did. We were so pleased with the entire experience, and it was a great value for lunch. Excellent biscuits and crab stew. Everything was amazing:)"

  • "I went for brunch while visiting Savannah for the firs time. Service was great and the restaurant was very nice and cozy feeling. The biscuit they gave us with honey poured all over it was delicious. I ordered an omelet with a side of hash browns. It looked so yummy but I could barely eat it due to the over usage of ground pepper they used all over everything."

  • "The atmosphere was cozy, with two fires in the room. I ordered the Neptune - crab cakes, shrimp, and scallops. That was good - the sides were okay - risotto and squash."

  • "The bar was very busy but cozy with 2 fireplaces. We enjoyed our first drink in front of the fireplace talking with another couple who were their for the 1st time also. We were seated at a great table in the dining room; it was in front of the fireplace and facing the piano. The piano music was quiet and made the experience more romantic. The food was good but the seared scallops we had before dinner were really good and so was the wine. As a whole, it had great atmosphere, good food and local history. Also, we were facing the front windows and enjoyed watching the horse drawn carriages, the ghost walking tours and the ghost busters vehicle passing by."
