Diner Reviews
  • "Had a very special anniversary dinner here. Food was outstanding as was the service. We loved that we could sit together on a love seat. There are many tables with this seating option. Also had cocktails in Tavern prior to dinner. Service was exceptional in there too"

  • "It is a lovely intimate restaurant within the resort. Truly great and attentive service. Several disgphes we ordered weren't very good but server sincerely inquired and took them off our bill"

  • "The food was good, but it was actually quite loud in the restaurant. And, it would be hot and then cold in the restaurant - like put on a sweater and then take it off. I could definitely see going here for a special occasion. We did not have an entree, but the appetizer, salad and sides that we had were very good."

  • "My wife and I just needed to get away for a weekend and Bedford Springs offered a $100 credit for dining. We saw the menu for 1796 and figured we would give it a chance. My wife loved her Salmon meal and I was very impressed with my bone-in blackened ribeye. They were both generous portions and packed with flavor. Dessert was excellent too."

  • "1796 is a wonderful fine dining experience. The food is fresh with a beautiful presentation. We ate there twice while staying at the Omni Bedford Springs and both meals were delicious. The veal chops were moist, tender and delicious and the Chef's potato of the day was more than the two of us could eat. The second night we had the seafood tower which was scrumptious! Crab legs, lobster and shrimp were all delectable. We have eaten here several times over the last few years and have never been disappointed."

  • "We dined there during a sizable convention at the Bedford Springs Resort, so the restaurant was quite busy, and pretty loud. Menu was excellent, service very good, and the dinner was very well presented and tasted great!"

  • "Although I said that this restaurant is good for groups, we were a group of 8, and we were seated in a private dining room with a larger group of women, who were so loud that we couldn't talk within our group. We asked them to lower the noise several times, and got a "mind your own busiess" response, so anyone who is thinking of booking a group larger than 4-6, should ask if the will have a room alone or have to share. The restaurant staff apologized profusely, but they could not control the women's group."

  • "Pork shank was incredible. The steaks were perfectly cooked to medium rare. Truffle aioli rocked."

  • "The food was wonderful from the salad to the desert. It was cooked to perfection and servered with great care. It was one of the best meals I have ever had."

  • "This is the first choice you have to make as a diner at the 1796 room. My advice is to get an early reservation. There are a limited number of eat-in sofas. Our waitress was attentive and able to make intelligent suggestions. The wine list was extensive. There was a decent selection of half bottles available. The menu itself seemed purposeful. I could tell that someone thought about each section. My husband ordered rib eye and I opted for truffle risotto, both cooked perfectly. For my husband's birthday, we ordered the trio of sorbets for dessert, all made in house. These ended up being comp'd. This impressed me as most places do not do this anymore. We left with two bags of homemade cashew brittle and are already planning our return visit"

  • "We were staying at the Omni Bedford Springs hotel and ate here our last night. The service was wonderful and the food outstanding. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "The decor reminded me of an 18th century tavern, which fitted the name of the restaurant. I found the ambience homey and great for family reunions. Their steaks were really juicy and easy to chew at medium rare. The scallops were also done just right."

  • "The ambience reminded me of what it was like in the olden days and the food and service was fantastic. Thanks for a great night!"

  • "The atmosphere and food were outstanding and our waiter was pleasant and accommodating although I felt there was too much lag time between the courses."

  • "The night we were there was very loud party of 3 couples who were racously enjoying their meal to the detriment of the rest of us in the dining room. My waitress was wonderful and moved us to a table as far away from this loud group as possible. I appreciated her effort to pick up the shards of a nearly shattered dining experience. That being said the food and service and wine list are amazing and not to be missed if you are dining at Bedford Springs Resort. I highly recommend the filet mignon and the deconstructed Caesar salad complete with real anchovies - yum!"

  • "The steaks were absolutely amazing and the seared sea scallop appetizer with corn puree and bacon was outstanding!!!"

  • "This restuarant provided the perfect end to a perfect day at beautiful Bedford Springs. The meal was delicious, we were unrushed and were able to enjoy our meal. When our 2nd bottle of wine choice was unavailable, they sold us our 1st choice at 2nd bottle pricing. This top-notch establishment is perfect for a special occasion."

  • "We have eaten here once before. Food is fantastic as is the service and ambience. Love it!"

  • "We were excited to try 1796 while staying at the resort. Our experience was underwhelming especially considering the price. The atmosphere was quaint and intimate when we arrived. However, within 10 minutes, live music began just on the other side of the wall behind us in the tavern restaurant. We might as well have been eating in the tavern since that was all we could hear during the meal. The first bottle of wine we chose from the menu was unavailable (unacceptable in our minds). We asked the server for another recommendation, which turned out to be terrible. The food was good - scallop appetizer was tasty but not much to look at; entree meats (the duck special and the salmon) were well seasoned and cooked perfectly, the sides were ok."

  • "We had an outstanding Christmas dinner. Our server was pleasant and knowledgable of the menu and gave great suggestions. The food was fantastic. It was a fun atmosphere with all types of groups from hound and old couples, to families, all dining and enjoying. I have been to 1796 Room a few times and it's always great."

  • "It was a bad visit on 12/26 for both food quality, portion size, and service. The salads were uninspired and ridiculously overpriced. The wines are always over priced, but expected. The entrees (chicken and salmon) were good as we're the sides, but the service this night was not good at all. We were issued the wrong check then had another incorrect amount charged to our charge card. This was after waiting a long time for the server to arrive with our check to begin with and a good 30 min until we finally received the right check and could cash out. However we'll probably give it one more chance based on past experiences, bring wine to drink in our room, and not order the most expensive entrees!"

  • "The food was absolutely superb, from the presentation to the unique flavors. The wait staff was very friendly and informative."

  • "Had the blackened rib eye...very good. My wife had lamb chops. She said they were the best she has had. The only 'chocolate ' desert on the menu was gluten free. It was just so so. Wine list had name brand wines. Our bottle was very good. This was our third time here. It's been consistently delicious."

  • "Excellent steakhouse. Perfectly cooked to right temp. Nice sides. Caesar salad slightly underdressed. First time that ever happened. Usually sopping wet. Bring a sweater. Staff well trained and knowledgable."

  • "Very pleased with staff, service and most of all food! Everything was delicious and made to order specifications."

  • "This was my wife and I's second time at 1796. The whole Bedford Springs atmosphere is amazing. The only thing I could complain about is there were so many people visiting that parking was tight but that was a good sign. The food and service were unremarkable. The quality was top notch. There is also something for everyone and if not the staff would do whatever they could to accommodate to your needs. Our first trip there was for our honeymoon and they treated us like royalty. The food and atmosphere make it for one of the most memorable places we have ever dined."

  • "Loved dining in this historic gem. The food was out-of-this world and the restaurant was cozy and quiet. The wait staff was attentive without hovering and friendly without being fake. I took my 13 year old son, who felt very honored and grown up by his experience. Thankfully the wild salmon was prepared simply enough for his palette and he enjoyed it very much! My Bison steak was well prepared and beautifully presented, as were the side dishes (which are all ordered a-la-carte). Dessert was also spectacular and we came away satiated and pampered. I would recommend to anyone with deep pockets, as this is a pricey place, but worth the experience!"

  • "The food and service was stellar! However the sound quality of the room was very poor. The room ampilified table conversations and it felt more like a tavern than a quality restaurant with the loud talk going on. The staff was excellent and helpful in moving us to the Crystal room where it was a more comfortable level of dining. The closest way of describing the experience was the noise level was similiar to eating at a Texas Roadhouse restaurant, with the cost of a 5 star restaurant."

  • "Spent the weekend at the Bedford Springs Inn. Dinner at the 1796 Room was excellent as was our entire experience at the resort. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We have dined at Bedford Springs on numerous occasions and while it was good, the new menu and the food at 1796 are over the top! Every aspect of the meal was better than anticipated. Expensive, yes but worth every penny. We can't wait to go back. The last veal chop I had that compared was in New York City!"

  • "Bedford Springs is a special place for us. We spent our Wedding Night there in 1959 and celebrated our 50th Anniversary there with our five children and their families. Our return visits add to our memories and wonderful dinners at the 1796 are part of that ."

  • "We had a fabulous, relaxing dinner with friends at the Bedford Springs this past weekend and discovered this restaurant in the hotel. It was a little pricey but worth it, After dinner, enjoy a drink in the bar area right outside the restaurant Our night, a musician was playing the guitar. That was an added extra. Do not leave this fine dining establishment without saving room for dessert....the cheesecake was worth every calorie!!!!!!!"

  • "I had a great dinner at 1796. The steak was perfectly cooked and the staff took the liberty of splitting the order before they brought it to the table. The quail and grits were delicious but the mushroom soup needed a little more seasoning. My one complaint is that I had reserved a table for 9:00 and we were not seated until 9:30 and that was after we asked if there were any tables available. They gave us a table for 4 because the tables for 2 were occupied."

  • "I have had more attentive service by the red eye shift at eat n park. The server never came back after he dropped off the entree until he brought the check. It was a shame because everything else about the restaurant was fantastic. Unfortunately I wouldn't go back as a result. When you forget the customer the customer forgets you."

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at 1796. The shrimp cocktail was incredible. In fact every course was amazing. Portions are large so come hungry. Drinks are expensive but worth the price. Best dinner and service we have enjoyed in quite a while. There was a large table of woman near us that were rather noisy but that didn't stop us from having a terrific experience."

  • "just the best meal i have had probably..EVER. me and my husband spent 2 nights at bedford springs for a little needed relaxation time and it was just the best experience ever. We had dinner at the 1796 room and both got the beef tenderloin..it was absolute perfection and worth every penny. The atmosphere and service is wonderful...definitely will be returning someday."

  • "This was our second visit to the restaurant-both times for our anniversary. I believe we have started a new annual tradition. The serving staff was very accommodating and pleasant. Our server was well informed of the courses and provided great recommendations when requested. It was a mixed crowd from young couples with children to octogenarians having a quiet meal. The atmosphere was pleasant for both."

  • "The room is a beautiful antique setting, but outside the door a poor and very loud performer making the meal like eating while listening to reruns of American Idol. Noise level ridiculous, and the food overpriced."
