1770 HouseExcellence expected and deliveredFor all our special occasions we go to 1770 House when in the Hamptons. Went on Mother's Day this year and as usual the experience was terrific. Great food, good bottle of wine, attentive and professional staff. What else is there to ask from a restaurant? Simply the best in the Hamptons.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always love 1770 House,We always love 1770 House, especially the main dining room. Some new items have freshened up the menu, but the old standbys are still there. In a sea of Hamptons mediocrity , this always stands out as an oasis of taste and calm. Though very expensive, it delivers on both food, ambiance and service.
If you aren't claustrophobic and dont mind going into a subterranean cellar for more casual fare, the tavern dowsntairs is popular as well with a simpler menu, and also kid-freindly.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, dinner here wasAs always, dinner here was a pleasure! We dined during Hamptons Restaurant Week, and it was a delicious and great value. The restaurant was full and the food was the same as ever, top notch. We each started with a fennel, beet and soaked cherry salad, which was an interesting combination and so tasty. Our entrees were salmon and chicken, each well dressed with appropriate sides. Molten chocolate cake and coconut sorbet for dessert, along with a very good Pinot Noir from Oregon's Willammette Valley. An excellent meal at a lovely, historic place!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSpring has sprung!wonderful opportunity to experience 1770 during Hampton Restaurant Week and enjoyed selections from the prix fixe menu. Baby spinach salad followed by The Scottish salmon were both excellent, accompanied by a fine glass of Malbec. My partner for dinner, she selected the carrot soup and the monkfish with lobster, a favorite of hers, along with the Sancere, bon appetit! We were served by the most capable and attentive 1770 dining room staff. A delightful evening especially since Spring has finally arrived. Our palettes were treated to the grand cuisine crescendo of our pleasnt time together by the molten chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla, to die for. Enjoyed exploring the cozy confines of the Tavern after dinner.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMNot up to previous visitsQuietly elegant atmosphere. Large portions, so-so presentation. A large fennel salad featured hazelnuts & apple, but the dressing & beets overpowered. A generous entrée of Monkfish with large chunks of lobster, fingerling potatoes, and baby bok choy was heavily sauced, and did not compliment the fish. It was basically an orange mound. the bok choy not visible and overcooked under the potatoes and fish that looked the same until one cut into them. If the browned potatoes or fish had a crisp surface, the sauce masked any textural contrast. The spinach salad was good, but not memorable and the salmon good, but also undistinguished. The chocolate cake & peanut butter gelato pleased my wife, but was very sweet.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful meal andWe had a wonderful meal and great service -- a good choice for a special occasion!!!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, good service andGood food, good service and always a pleasant experience.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAvid fan disillusionedWe being year round foodies and avid fans of 1770 for a number of years, were disillusioned when our most recent visit proved to be uninspired.
The menu seemed less ambitious and the selections were 'common' among many of the establishments in the area. We had regularly been impressed with usually two or more selections which were special to 1770, but not at the last visit.
The change was so surprising that we had to ask if there had been a change in the kitchen and sure enough there was. While i'm sure the new chef is very capable - the menu needs to up the ante to the prior sublime status.
We always look forward to our meals at 1770 and expect to return soon.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Burger in Town!We ate in the Tavern. It is so intimate and cozy. Our wait staff made us feel like old friends. It is alsomthentype of place where you always see someone you haven't seen for years, sit down and catch up. The owner, Ben Krupinski, was also passing through and offered a warm welcome. Now for the reasoner came I the first place....the BEST BURGER IN TOWN!! The Taven burger is just the right size, cooked perfectly to order with your choice of cheddar, blue or gruyere cheese. I always add crispy bacon. The brioche rolls, red onions and crispy but not oily fries....nirvana. The homemade peanut butter gelato.....amazing.
We keeping trying to vary our Friday night dinner out, but .......2/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a WinnerConsistent excellence. I have been going for years. A new chef is now in place but food still excellent.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
