  • "This is one of the best restaurants in East Hampton. The food and ambiance are always excellent. An elegant outpost in the midst of trendy!"

  • "Michael is a brilliant and extremely modest chef! Delicious meal, excellent fluke tartar (not to be missed), Black Sea bass and NY Srip! Our sweet waiter from Miami made the meal most enjoyable!"

  • "The food is delicious, the service great. We arrived late because the address on Google maps is not correct. We called to let them know and they give me a hard advice, I understood, it was late but once in the place the girl did it again like a punishment!. The menu prices on the web page were totally different to the real ones (higher)."

  • "I'm a longtime fan of 1770. Their food is excellent, the service is impeccable and the wine list is great. My favorite spot is the Tavern downstairs; it serves the upstairs menu AND several more casual options, including the 1770 burger, my single favorite thing on the menu."

  • "In general, Hamptons' restaurants don't live up to expectations. This one was a pleasant surprise. The fish was very well prepared. Service was great. The wine list was terrible. But otherwise very pleasant. Will go back."

  • "Went to the 1770 House for our anniversary. We have been going to Montauk for yours and rarely head into East Hampton for dinner. Decided upon the 1770 House for our anniversary and had a great dining experience and night out. Friendly first class service and terrific food. We will definitely be headed back there soon. "

  • "The idea of being able to eat phenomenal food in a beautiful setting where you can actually hear everyone in your party talk is so unusual these days that 1770 House is even more special than it might otherwise be."

  • "Typical east Hampton clientele. Stuffy people who think they are more important than they are. And don't try to get their famous meatloaf in the main dining room. It is only served in the tavern and they WILL NOT make an exception. Not a great place for kids. No kids menu. Can get a 9oz burger, or pasta for them - that's it. Food was good but we didn't have an enjoyable time. They were out of several wines we chose as well. We booked an early dinner time because we were there with two kids, but felt like it was a problem having the kids there at all. Would not return with kids for sure and likely not at all to the main dining room. "

  • "The food was good and consistent throughout all courses but nothing innovative. "

  • "Beautiful country inn elegance with knowledgeable staff that knows their food and wine. Modern American menu with highest quality ingredients prepared to perfection. Dinner was plated and served with attention to every detail. Everything on our plates was delicious. Salads were composed with care and attention to balanced flavors. Unusual mix rather than the boring usual mixed greens. Fish is just caught and interestingly flavored with freshest ingredients. My husband's pork loin was served with polenta , tender and delicious. Dessert was the best ricotta cheese cake ever, served with a berry compote. Elegant surroundings while being warm and friendly. Just perfect. "

  • "Very cozy in downstairs room. The Parma Prosciutto and Mozzarella, Melon & Endive Salad with flatbread is such a treat. The prosciutto is less salty than most....so good."

  • "Very good food, great service in a fabulous, historic setting. The noise level in the dining room was excessive with a very loud party of four. "

  • "Had a Sat. night reservation, but had to wait a half hour till our table was ready. I guess the previous party wouldn't get up. The staff was apologetic, although we think they should have called us or, at the very least, offered us a drink or dessert for having to wait so long to get our table. The food was less tasty than usual - just good, not great. Not as good as usual - somewhat disappointing."

  • "The complete fine dining experience - beautiful space and appointments, top notch service and exquisite food. One gets the feeling of enjoying a delicious, leisurely dinner in a very special private home. From the time you are seated in what may be the most comfortable chair in the restaurant world and presented with a crusty roll straight from the oven, you know you are in for a wonderful evening."

  • "We have enjoyed this restaurant fairly often. It is a lovely inn and the staff is friendly and helpful. The food is perfectly prepared, perfectly presented and succulent. The wine list is extensive and the staff is well prepared to answer questions and make suggestions. We had another wonderful meal and evening at this fine restaurant."

  • "Good restaurant but their offerings for restaurant week are not that interesting...three entrees (unless you pay a surcharge), no local wines priced for the week...as many other restaurants offer."

  • "1770 House has a warm, charming & inviting decor. The staff is friendly & professional. I would like to return when it is not restaurant week & order food from the regular menu. We visited the tavern which seems cozy & a definite must for burgers. The tavern menu is a casual dining experience with "comfort" food."

  • "It was a pleasure to celebrate Hampton's Restaurant week at the historic 1770 House. The historic home built in 1663 is loaded with period details and a romantic fireplace. The service was very good. The food was terrific. We have already made future reservations. Thank you for your participation in the Hampton's Restaurant week. It was a pleasure to join you."

  • "This was our second visit to the 1770 House and it was fantastic! The food was great, the service was top notch and the room itself was both beautiful and elegant. We will return!"

  • "The 1770 house is a beautiful place. We went for a special occasion and would like to comment of the following: I Wish the tables of two didn't face the wall but instead sideways to see the room instead of the wall and an exit sign. The food was excellent, but would have preferred a broader menu, which might include the tavern menu. Had the Oysters as an appetizer, but was not fond of the dressing/sauce that was provided to put on them. Preferred them plain on their own. I have dined in the tavern and more enjoyed that location and the ambience of that location. If we were to come back I would dine in the Tavern. The service was outstanding, and the staff was great. Overall a good experience"

  • "Dining at the 1770 House is a wonderful experience. From the moment you arrive until you pick up your coats to leave, the staff is friendly and attentive. The food is as good as it gets. The politically incorrect foie gras is amazing. Our party had the pork tenderloin, the cod, and the chicken. Each was terrific. Hard to believe that chicken can get so good. We go there on special occasions and plan to continue the tradition."

  • "We love this gem of a restaurant when we celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and holidays. We took our son here on December 26 to enjoy a beautifully prepared dinner in an intimate living room setting. We started with fresh baked rolls and drinks, then progressed to appetizers - their fresh beet salad, yellow-fin tuna tartare, and fresh tomato soup were delicious! our entrees were local fluke in a silky orange sauce, thick-cut natural pork chop, and filet mignon for my son - all winners. The desserts were ricotta cheesecake (a favorite) and a special - hot apple crisp. The service was personal and attentive without being obtrusive. What a memorable dining experience!"

  • "This B&B is so beautiful and historic. A special treat, especially in winter when they have all the fireplaces going and the decorations up"

  • "1770 House is a charming place. Make your way downstairs to the Tavern for a drink before a fantastic meal in the upstairs dining room. Restaurant is in a house that was built in 1693 and became a B & B in 1770. Service was outstanding. We went in off season with holiday decorations which added to the charm. It was not busy but we made reservations and dined with a few others.. During the summer you would have to plan ahead and make sure you had a reservation to get it. It is a must if you are in East Hampton!!!!"

  • "The restaurant week menu was very, very good. The wine list is not inexpensive, but of high quality. My wife found the beet salad to be outstanding. I gave the same ranking to the salmon. The service was excellent and we were never rushed, even though we lingered a bit. All in all, a delightful evening. P.S. If one wants any negative, it was that the sourdough rolls were a tad overdone."

  • "Normally the food and service here are impeccable. This was a rare occasion when both did not live up to the year round standard. The pasta was tasty, but the salmon with parsnip puree was mediocre, and the sauce had a strange flavor. The server seemed rushed and annoyed, even though we did not present any special requests. After her response to my request for a wine recommendation, I felt foolish and like I was wasting her time. We love this restaurant and will definitely go back, but I am very surprised with the service. We eat here both during Restaurant week(s) and the rest of the year, and it's never been like this."

  • "1770 House is our all time favorite restaurant anywhere. And we have been all over the world. THe food is amazing, the wine less is excellent, with a broad range of excellent choices.. The ambiance is comfortable and soothing but not too informal. The service is excellent and pleasing and we know the wait staff. Don't change anything. Consistently THE best restaurant in East Hampton and these parts overall."

  • "Maybe the food was "dumbed down" for restaurant week, but it wasn't as interesting as in past visits."

  • "Food was excellent and great portions. Delicious desserts! Ambiance was charming and delightful. Service was exemplary."

  • "My wife and I had the salmon and the grouper and can easily say that the food, service and ambiance of the 1770 House was outstanding. We will definitely return."

  • "It can be difficult in the Hamptons to find a restaurant that focuses on serving excellent food, as opposed to trying to jump on the latest trend or become the next hot spot for people watching. 1770 House is that restaurant. After years of trying restaurants in the Hamptons (including the welcome addition of Topping Rose House), I believe 1770 House serves the best food in the Hamptons."
    Dined on 10/12/2013
  • "You can't beat what the 1770 house has to offer. It's a poshy step back in time. My only problem with it is I feel like their menu changed and there's nothing special about it. It was hard to order with such a beige menu."
