  • Special Events & Promotions: Each fall, 1741 on the Terrace features wine dinners on the first Wednesday of each month, featuring four to seven courses. Each course, presented by Chef Troxell, is paired with wines presented by our guest sommeliers & speakers with discussion on wine and culture.

    In January 1741 on the Terrace features wine seminars presented by guest sommeliers with discussion on wine pairing, describing wines, and wine-producing regions around the world.

This restaurant is not just for special occasions. In addition to the ala carte menu, a fixed-price Tasting Menu features smaller portions of a three course dinner, allowing you to try a variety of dishes.
A Wine Spectator Award of Excellence winner, the wine list is developed to inspire. The list is populated with wines from around the world, but with a focus on American. The selections are varied & the list has been crafted to make the choices easy for a novice.
Our certified sommeliers are available to aid wine selection or pairings, including our exclusive Wineflight - a tasting of 3 wines priced as a single glass.

  • "My wife and I spent a weekend at the hotel and decided to have dinner and Sunday brunch at the hotel. All the reviews I read set the bar high for this grand old establishment. The food was perfect and well prepared but the service ruined our evening. It took more than 30 minutes after clearing the table of the first course disches before our entrees came out with our waiter no where to be found. When he reappeared we asked about our food and he said he was sorry it was taking so long (so were we). When he finally arrived with our main course he said the delay was due to the fact that there was a new executive chef, then a new process in the kitchen. He sounded like a schoolboy caught in a lie. No service recovery was offered."

  • "2013 Christmas-Service is so bad-staff left us constantly waiting for drinks/forks/food came after 1 hour. No one apologized and we were ignored totally. Once the food came mine was cold and it was so mediocre. The only redeeming quality is the pretty atmosphere. Skip the restaurant and just get drinks in the bar-go out to the main street for much better restaurants."

  • "We are from Harrisburg Area and needed dinner before Jim Gaffigan show at The Sands. Dinner was top-notch. Even though it was a rainy night, we enjoyed our window seat overlooking the gorgeous downtown Bethlehem area. So beautiful with all of its 17th century buildings. The food would please any Foodie. And service was excellent, with brief history of town from Manager. Will definitely go back. Perfect beginning to our night."

  • "We knew we only had an hour before a show - our group had either a salad or soup and we all ordered the scallop appetizers. My Quinoa salad was delicious, as were the others and the lobster bisque. The scallops were cooked perfectly - 3 large with asparagus puree. Scallops were seasoned with something salty - otherwise excellent. Service was superb - waiter kept things moving and informed us of time so we could leave in time for the show. Will definitely return to relax for a longer dinner. Also, we reserved a window table near Main Street and that was nice to have them comply."

  • "Minimalist describes our meal. The appetizers were tiny, especially for the price. My husband's entrée from the specials was protein on top of a small amount of sweet potatoes - no other accompaniment. Poor presentation. The deconstructed bananas foster was the highlight of the meal. We aren't looking for piles of food on our plates, but this missed the mark."

  • "I had dinner at 1741 Restaurant some months ago and it was expensive but excellent. I returned with some business associates and was embarrassed to have recommended 1741. They took over 30 minutes to come back to us to advise that the wine we had ordered was not available and on back order and then a further 15 before serving our second choice. The food was cold. It seemed that the food had to be brought in from elsewhere, even the plates were not warm. Every time the door was opened to bring in food or drinks we had to pause our conversation because the noise level from the foyer was so loud that we could not be heard at our table. This was a very poor experience and I would certainly never recommend this restaurant again."

  • "It has now been five years that my wife and I have dined at the Terrace on Valentine's Day, the first three while dating. We have made it our Valentine's tradition because we love the atmosphere and the food. A major reason my wife and I like dining at the 1741 Terrace is the convenience of the hotel's parking deck. For our last two reserved dinner dates we were told we could not park in the deck unless we were registered guests. Valet service was offered the first time but we had to drive a block away and pay for the valet. This last time I had to drive to the Walnut St garage and walk back to the hotel through slushy roads and snow covered walks. The shuttle was nowhere to be seen. A return trip was required to get the car. cont'd below"

  • "I booked our dinner here and requested a window seat. When my reservation was confirmed thy said they may not be able to accommodate this. I was annoyed because I made the reservation over a month in advance. We did get a window seat though so I was happy and it was very romantic. They had someone playing piano during dinner and the ambiance was great. I was disappointed they did not know how to make my chocolate covered cherry martini when they could just google it but I got a different martini and it was good. Our food and dessert was great and we had a nice evening. I will definitely come here again."

  • "Our evening at the Hotel Bethlehem celebrated 29 years of a wonderful life together. We savored a fabulous malbec with our delicious meal. From our table we enjoyed the charm of Bethlehem's Main Street which glistened under a blanket of snow. Our server was pleasant and attentive, but allowed us privacy. Transplanted New Yorkers, I'm sorry it took my wife and I too many years to visit. However, the Hotel Bethlehem impressed us so much, we plan to visit and enjoy again and again. Thank you for a lovely evening!"

The waiter had the food expedited since we were attending a show right after and the hotel arranged travel accomadations while we were eating. Highly reccomended!"

We booked for what turned out to be the coldest night of the year, so caveat emptor there - it was about 60* throughout dinner, such that t hose warmed plates were MOST welcome! THe huge panoramic windows surely make for challenging temp. control. The menu choices we ordered were delightful prepared and presented - leasing, balanced bouquets of flavor and texture, with eye appeal to match. No run-of-the-mill here. HIghly recommended. Decent wine list too."

The items on the menu were creative and delicious and drew on local produce and history. Very friendly service. We enjoyed the piano in the background.   • "Food was great. Beautiful space. However, the service was very poor. We are locals and the Hotel Bethlehem is known for high quality and service. We had high expectations because of its reputation and we were disappointed. 3 times servers came to our table with food that wasn't ours, our glasses were empty most of our meal and a server was reprimanded by another staff member in front of our table for not bringing a crab cake with the persons steak. You could tell the staff was stressed and frantic. It will be a long time before we will return."

  • "The food was delicious. I have eaten here before, enjoyed it, but was surprised, upset by how close the tables were and how many large parties. I almost wanted to leave, we were a party of four seated between three very large tables of 6 or more people. The wait staff could not get around the tables and kept brushing us in our seats! It is not fun to be bumped repeatedly.Seeing the constant motion of the wait staff rushing by made it very difficult to relax and enjoy our dinner. I was disappointed by the noise (very noisey) and running around and did not enjoy my experience as much as I usually do. The restaurant is expensive and we usually go there for a special treat, to be treated elegantly and that was definitely not our experience."

  • "Traveling the country I have been to many fine restaurants and never thought I'd find a fine dining experience in the Lehigh Valley. The Terrace at the Hotel Bethlehem is not the Williamsburg Inn but it is quite nice. A very pretty setting, excellent service and fine food at what I would consider modest prices. With a recent snow, downtown old Bethlehem was a wonderful atmosphere to be gazing outside our window view at the historic buildings. I'm looking forward to their Sunday brunch!"

  • "Lovely view, delicious dinner, but the service was slow. Although our waitress was pleasant and helpful, we think that she was also servicing guests in the othe restaurant, The Tap Room. She'd be gone for 15 -20 minutes not to be seen anywhere in the room. My husband needed to have some items addressed and I was done with my meal before she returned again. In addition, the "10 Minute" apple crisp took a half hour to get to us."

  • "Very good food, but the kitchen cannot manage weddings and this restaurant and room service at the same time. I have dined here several times with a group of six. The wait this time was so long that our liquor and desserts were taken off the bill without us asking. The staff wondered about not knowing what to do besides relighting our candles. When asked about the entrée, I was told they were being plated. hen I asked 35 minutes later, noting that plating does not take 35 minutes, I was told 'he would check'... . Would rather have a proper flow for dinner than freebies. The lack of timing ruined the evening . I will not dine here again on the weekend."

  • "I went on a Thursday nigh with two of my friends and we had a great time. The hotel and restaurant is beautiful. They sat us at the corner next to the huge windows which had beautiful views. Our waitress was great and our food was amazing. The only negative is that it was pretty cold so bring a sweater."

  • "I enjoy visiting Bethlehem and I do so regularly. It deserves a better restaurant for fine dining than this one. The Historic Hotel Bethlehem is also a lovely place. Unfortunately the service was quite slow at the start. It took about 25 minutes before we could get someone to take notice and offer us drinks. I should add that the restaurant was not full. The food was inoffensive but not exceptional and the preparations were standard. Other problems were that we received bread dishes with butter knives but no bread, soup orders were delivered but spoons were not on the table nor were they brought with the soups, desserts were also brought but we lacked forks and knives. Some of the desserts were overly cold too. Good wine advice."

  • "Been here before for special occasions and have not been disappointed. The food has always been wonderful, fresh and flavorful. Beautiful presentation as well. If the wine pairings are available, I would recommend it. The wine list here is excellent. The service is first rate. Without a doubt the trout dish was the best I've had. My job requires that I travel often and I always look for good food wherever I go and the 1741 Terrace stacks up with the best of them. Not cheap but you get what you pay for."
