  • "We loved our whole dining experience from beginning to end. We were welcomed early at the outside bar and were treated exceptionally by two waitresses. They treated us as if we were their only customers. Upon arriving at the restaurant we were welcomed by the staff and taken to a wonderful table next to the window. Great view of the beach and sunset! Our waiter John welcomed us to the restaurant and walked us through our evening. My husband and John related right away talking about their lives in the Navy. We selected the four course meal and accompanying wine selection. A wise choice for us as it was incredible from the first glass of wine to our dessert selection. The lobster risotto was out of this world and the rest of the meal! Nice"

  • "Outstanding place! 4 course meal a bit pricey....i would rather see it around 60 instead of the 75 dollar price tag but very good. Steak was a bit overdone but their response was quick and satisfactory. The manager even through in a swig of some very expensive cab."

  • "We chose this restaurant based on location and reviews to celebrate our 6th anniversary. Boy were our needs met and then-some! Server was friendly, very knowledgeable, making our evening enjoyable. We opted for the specialty wine pairing...WHAT A TREAT! The beef carpaccio was probably the best I've ever, then came the second course---braised veal cheeks..a slice of true heaven! We felt like a kids at Christmas by the time our main dishes arrived, lamb chops and sea bass, each course kept getting better..and the wine pairings were superbly chosen! Our meal came to an end with a delightful presentation of our very own home made liquid nitrogen ice cream for dessert complete with all the toppings. One memorable evening...thank you!"

The waiter enticed us to order the tasting menu by telling us the portions were smaller, but it was just so much food, I was finished after the salad and second plate. Which was disappointing, because my filet was delicious, and I would have loved to be able to enjoy the warm chocolate cake for dessert. Ambiance and service were outstanding, but I felt misled by the server."

  • "Have been disappointed when we've visited San Diego, but not this time. 1500 delivered. Lamb was great. Service was a bit rushed, but better than too slow. We didn't bring our own wine, but $25 corkage has to be lowered as their wine list is not extensive enough to justify such a high fee."

  • "The service was excellent. We never experienced anything but positive, friendly service, even from the the person who removed the services between courses. It was a very rainy day, so I cannot rate the outside service as it was not available. This was my wife's birthday dinner. Ocean 1500 had a nice option of choosing one item from four separate categories for each person. We decided to take that route and share. The food was excellent and we enjoyed trying 8 different types of food. My wife wanted to kidnap the chef when we were done, the food was so good. We had Shrimp, Scallops, Fillet Mignon, main lobster capacio, asparagus, desert, drinks and all were fantastic. Highly recommend."

  • "And a great value if you choose the four course menu. The sashimi appetizer was superb, as was the veal cheek. Go for the lamb over the duck or diver scallops (which the waiter tried hard to push even though they are from Maine and we ate there on a Tuesday. It made us think that perhaps they needed to sell them fast.) There was a fireworks display from a wonderful sand castle on the beach - I don't know if that is a nightly event but it was fun. The only downside was the noise of the naval helicopters flying by."

  • "Four course menu is a great deal - the main courses were great and the view and service cannot be beat. The highlight however were the details, the perfect roasted pear on the appetizer salad, the enticing citrus broth with the muscles, the incredible sauce with the veal cheek, the Brussels sprouts with the pork, arugula and mint with the lamb and fantastic ice wine with the dessert. Only item for improvement was the beans with the lamb that were too too salty."

Only fault; why can't so many high end restaurants make decent coffee or de caf? Minor, but disappointing, and only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. Hope to get the opportunity to go back."

  • "We had the pleasure of introducing friends to the fabulous Hotel Del Coronado and it's wonderful fine dining venue, 1500 Ocean. They were mightily impressed and promised to become regulars. As always, everything was perfect. GM Ben Kephart was on hand as usual to greet guests and see to their needs. The staff has impressed us more than any other over the 35 years we have dined at the Del. This night it was a variety of delicious starters, then lamb for our guests and salmon and pappardelle pasta for us. The setting was perfect and the food delicious. Combine all of this with beautiful decor and a spectacular ocean setting, all at very reasonable prices and you can see why we dine here as often as possible. Try 1500 Ocean, just spectacular!"

Our meals were prepared to perfection and served at a relaxed pace, fitting for a restaurant overlooking the breaking waves of the Pacific Ocean.   • "We had a Girl's Night Out at 1500 Ocean, since we were working in the San Diego Area and wanted to visit "The Hotel Del" before we left town. We lucked out, since it was San Diego Restaurant week and we got a 3-course meal for $45 and some of us chose to do the wine pairing offering for an additional $30...it was sumptuous and the menu was wonderful as was the great wine selection. I ordered the Butternut Squash soup, the boneless lamb loin and the warm chocolate flourless cake with marscapone ice cream...it was not only a fantastic meal, but the service was impeccable and the experience was delightful. I highly recommend this fine dining restaurant!"

For my taste, I have always rated them perfect 30's in every category, for Zagat. 1500 Ocean is no mere restaurant, it is an experience, offering the finest classic dishes in our very special SoCal style. The room is beautiful, then you see the ocean, seemingly at the foot of the front patio, and are transfixed. The staff members are all veterans, true experts in the cuisine, choice of wine, from an impressive cellar, cocktails, and those specialty desserts. Just a fabulous experience, at surpringsly low prices. 1500 Ocean, the finest restaurant is a real value. Try it!"

  • "My boyfriend and I came here for restaurant week. For appetizers, we shared the beef carpaccio and yellowfin tuna sashimi with avocado mousse. They both were good, but the sashimi was fantastic - served with a little slice of chile on top. For entrees, we shared the lamb loin and the wild sea bass. The fish was excellent (succulent on the inside, but a perfect crust on the outside), the lamb loin was good but nothing to rave about. Dessert was the vanilla creme brûlée and the chocolate cake. Both good, but typical at restaurants like these. The wines are way overpriced and I wish that the corkage fee of $25 wasn't so high. Overall, I probably would return for restaurant week ($45/person) and for a special occasion."

The friendly staff stands ready to meet your every need, GM Ben Kephart is always on hand to greet you and ensure your particular tastes are satisfied. The food is terrific, just delicious. This night our party enjoyed succulent oysters , the freshest of sushi, garnished magnificently, mussels tasty beyond description and then the mains: salmon, lamb, scallops, and pasta, all prepared in the classic southwest style. Try 1500 Ocean, we love it."
