Restaurant came highly recommended via a Japanese friend of a foodie friend...was highly anticipating this meal. Unfortunately, I can't quite understand how this restaurant got its Michelin Star. We got the tasting menu and it started out strong. The first 2 courses were exquisite in taste, presentation. I was looking forward to the rest of the meal. Unfortunately, the remaining courses missed the mark a little. The sea bass was just salty, not much in the way of other flavors. While the Sushi was fresh, the presentation and combinations were not that inventive. Hand cut soba was wonderful and perhaps in the future I might just get the soba and plates off of the menu and forgo the tasting menu.

The sushi/sashimi here is top class. A particular favourite is the live shrimp. Once you have eaten the body and sucked out the head they bring the head back to you deep fried. 3 deliciously different ways to eat the shrimp.

Thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here! The food was fantastic, and although expensive, it was not unreasonable, there are definitely other 1 star Michelin restaurants that charge much more. Very small cozy restaurant, with romantic dim lighting, but bright enough to see and appreciate the food you're being served. The steak tartar and sushi were outstanding! I wish I would have gotten more sushi, however, the duck that I ordered was also outstanding. The servers were very attentive and friendly. I loved that some guests were dressed to the nines, and some were dressed as casual as it gets, and yet, every table got equally good service. We even got an extra free dessert for our friend's birthday!

I had the tuna flight entree which was incredible. My husband had the sushi and sashimi omikase and it was delicious. Our waiter, Charles Brown, was super informative and attentive and the somallier was very helpful. The green tea creme brulee is so yummy! Yes, it's expensive, but worth every penny.

From outside never know this is a Japanese restaurant, Continental chic. Inside, Foodies at Sushi Bar. Warm browns. Nice dining room. Maybe twenty tables, spaced apart. Asian staff is top-notch. Occidental staff condescending. Complicated menu. Waiter intent on guiding us to expensive chef's tasting menu than answering questions. Wine list--primarily sakes and Japanese Scotches-- hard to decipher. Simplest solution:sushi and rolls by piece.Saved a fortune. With cocktails the bill was just New York expensive. What we ordered was superb. Among the best sushi/sashimi. Served visually appetizing. Would I go back? Yes, absolutely.Would love waiter be more helpful in assisting so I can explore obviously brilliant chefs.

15 East is one of our favorite restaurants in the City. In large part that's due to the staff who are friendly and, amazingly, come from other, fave restaurants. One of the hostesses we recognized as having been at Omen, on Thompson St, for years. A waiter was someone we knew from Masa. And then there's Roger, the sommelier, who worked with the Waltuck's at Chantarelle for years. Roger has been a "Best" sommelier of the year more than once with mags like Wine Spectator, etc. All in all, eating there has been a bit like a reunion. Then there's the food. The sashimi are delicate delicacies...absolutely among the best in Manhattan and among the best anywhere. The sake list is superb. The ambience is typical two or three star...

I have been here before and loved it. But when I brought my friend back, 15 East didn't have the live Uni and they took the abalone and uni risotto off the menu. When I asked the waiter, he wasn't particularly nice about it either. This place is only worth going to because of the live Uni and the abalone and uni risotto. I tried different things but they failed to impress.

Im currently pregnant (5months) so i didn't get to try much variety of sushi when i was dining at 15east... My main meal was the Smoked Cherry wood duck & i also had 2 of their Cooked Sushi Nidako (slow poached Octopus) which is excellent very soft not gummy, perfectly seasoned & the King Crab Sushi is very tasty... the rice melted in my mouth... it might look like a smaller portion of sushi... but the point is to get to taste as many variety of fish... by the end of the night u will feel full... my sister & my friend ordered omakase & a la carte... they were beyond happy with their fish selection...

The food and the service are good, but the price leaves you feeling like you've been taken for a ride. In my opinion, $400 is simply too much to pay for a meal, and I live in Paris, which is famous for its expensive dining. No amount of chit-chat about cooking octopus at 140 degrees for tenderness and the availability of obscure and rare seafood can compensate for what is fundamentally a dining experience that offers very poor value.

I was very excited to try this restaurant but left without the desire to return. The selection of fish was top notch as expected.. no escolar and tilapia here! The portions were super small for the price without the atmosphere being worth the extra expense. I prefer other competitors in NYC and left disenchanted. Service was excellent and staff was knowledgeable... but I prefer my authentic sushi fix elsewhere.

At the end of a 3 hour enjoyable dinner, I stood up from my meal satisfied, not stuffed. Bill for 4 , with 2 bottles of sake was more than $1,000.

15 East is great for sushi lovers, but only if you are willing to spend $100 per person for lunch. We did the sushi omakase and the sashimi omakase, and at almost $40 each, the portions of fish were disappointingly tiny. After eating at other high-end casual sushi establishments (sushi of gari, nobu), I am positive that I spent more money at 15 East and left hungrier from this spot. The fatty tuna, scallop, and king salmon were of the utmost quality, but I just couldn't justify the price when I could get similar quality fish that would actually satisfy my appetite. Service and atmosphere were perfect, but unless someone else is paying and I can order multiple lunch courses, I won't return here.

A small, intimate space with excellent service! We ordered the Smoked Kurobuta appetizer which was tasty, but the Ten Piece Sushi Omakase was absolutely sublime! You can customize the pieces with your own preferences and ours came with a special sushi featuring shiso-wrapped clam - scrumptious! I went here with my boyfriend on our holiday to New York. It is quite pricey but it's a Michelin star restaurant so this was expected. We had sushi to start which was delicious, followed by black cod which was also amazing and tempura prawns which my boyfriend enoyed but I found a little tasteless. The staff were very attentive and one of the waiters was very friendly and chatted to us for a while. My only complaint was that it was cold and raining outside and inside the restaurant was freezing! So wrap up! Overall a lovely place if you are looking for something romantic and with a quiet feel.

Had a reservation for Saturday night, and after having recently made the rounds at the top Sushi places in the city, found 15 East to be a very good option, with good fish, average rice, and what was hopefully an off night for service. Omakase was generally excellent, although mackerel and shrimp were very average. The rice here is served quite cold, although we ended the meal with some fresh unit which was fantastic. Finally the service was a bit disappointing as it took awhile to get our orders in and we were left sitting for 15 minutes after the table was cleared before someone stopped by again
