A word from 1300 on Fillmore
1300 on Fillmore is a restaurant and lounge that draws on the rich cultural history of San Francisco's Fillmore Jazz District. The restaurant serves "Soulful American" Cuisine, accompanied by a list of the finest California wines.

Soulful American Cuisine prepared as interpreted by internationally recognized chef David Lawrence. Lawrence combines classic French cooking techniques with hints of southern flavors using fresh, California seasonal ingredients. His north-meets-south cuisine includes imaginative creations such as dungeness crab and corn cakes, fresh water shrimp hush puppies, as well as refined interpretations of
southern favorites including macaroni and cheese and okra succotash.

Highlights include a heritage wall with portraits of the Fillmore’s vast array of blues and jazz legends. The
décor is eclectic and familiar, achieved by co-mingling vintage-inspired fabrics with modern interpretations of classic furnishings.

Diner Reviews
  • "Filling food ... a little heavy, but great service, and atmosphere."

  • "This restaurant breeds comfort and courtesy. The service is impeccable, from lounge to dining room. The staff are attentive, knowledgable and gracious. The food has high and low points, but the service is consistently high."

  • "The wait staff was great, however! The hostess was NOT friendly or inviting. That's really too bad since she is the first person you come into contact with when you arrive.... It took our party of 8 a few minutes once we were seated to get pass her attitude and enjoy our dinner.... We even contemplated leaving and goin somewhere else."

  • "We reserved an early 6pm reservation because we needed to get out before 8am to go to a concert at the Fillmore around the corner. Two in our party of three became delayed due to traffic from the east bay, so I called to let them know we would be about 15 minutes late. The hostess responded, "Well you better hurry up because your table is reserved right after you and we'll need that table." Really? Why not, "Thanks for letting us know, drive carefully". Not a good first impression. Then when we arrived - to pretty much empty restaurant, the hostess again warned us we better hurry and eat because our table was reserved for another party at 8:00 pm. $4.00 sodas were flat, martini $14.00. "NO" when asked for only breasts w/fried chicken..."

  • "Soul food is really too simplistic a term for this experience....it was food for the soul! Fantastic all the way around....friendly and very attentive service, food to die for, great jazz, wonderful ambience. Definitely on our "return" list."

  • "Still a cool looking place. Not many diners. Food so so. Greens were swimming in some kind of sauce. There was more meat than greens. Chicken good flavor but boneless and not that crispy."

  • "Who would have thought that you could find outstanding fusion soul food in San Francisco. This gem delivers great service and a crisp, rich atmosphere in the jazz heart of SF's Fillmore district. Hipsters and Soul Foodies meet in this new supper club. The food is excellent, well-prepared and delivered with expertise. A true gem that has failed to disappoint."

  • "Very nicely appointed room with space between tables and easy for conversations; pleasant decor; interesting historical wall of pictures from the years in the neighborhood hanging in the lounge area; friendly and knowledgeable service personnel; some lag time between taking drink and food order to getting it delivered to table; good choices on the menu."

  • "Great experience. Fab music but so so food. I'd definitely go again"

  • "We had dinner with another couple. We all enjoyed our dinner: appetizers: shrimp hushpuppies, chicken sausage, and fat fries. Entrees: 2 rib eye, 1 pork chop, and fried chicken. Sides: macaroni and cheese and greens. All was good. Mac & cheese very strong bleu cheese and the greens was okay with the maple syrup. Corn bread was good. The wait person asked if we wanted more and I said yes but we never saw them!"

  • "Had a friend from out of town in San Francisco and thought the great vibe and food would be a nice introduction for her. She loved it, food was great, service great. We had the greens which were wonderful and the catfish was savory. On a Tuesday night it wasnt too busy in the dinning room, great mood lighting. The only thing short of making it perfect was the private party they were holding so the bar/lounge wasnt available to us. I wish they would have told us in advance about that. But I recommend it"

  • "The meal was delicious, we ate every drop on the plate. Then we had dessert right next to an awesome live band in the restaurant (keyboard, drums, base, and vocals)."

  • "The brunch is amazing and if you get there 10-15 minutes early, you can sit at the bar."

  • "We've not been here for a couple of years, as we don't go into the City as much as we used to. I'd forgotten how DARK it is in there and it was a bit difficult to read the wine list and menu. Sad that there were no crab cakes on the menu, but we had the FAT fries and I had this lovely cocktail (with Creme de Violet??) that could only be described as YUMMY. Overall a nice, comfortable experience. The seating in the bar area could only be described as living room comfortable, and I'd have been happy to just stay there to eat, but the rest of my party wasn't too excited about that! Our wait staff was excellent!"

  • "My Sister and I drove in from LA to have dinner with friends. We received a call the day prior to let us know that a live band would be playing in their lounge for Fat Tuesday and we were welcomed to stay after dinner. This food is absolutely amazing, the owner and Chef is very personable. We asked to see him and he immediately came, talked of his menu, the dishes that his wife turned him on to as an England native. There is no doubt he has perfected the dishes with his culinary skills and we totally loved every bit of our evening. We will definitely return."

  • "My wife and I had two great dishes I had the fish, and my wife had lamb chops. She had this cuscus side and these potatoes that I could not tell if they were mash potatoes but they were great. As well my dish was excellent we will be back."

  • "I have had 1300 a few times.... This particular time the food was not at good as the previous times...I am not sure why. The Chicken was not as flavorful, nor the Mac and Cheese. Shrimp and Grits were not as well as before also. Not sure if there was a chef change, etc. but they are clearly not sticking to the original recipe. The Bar and Staff were exceptional as well as the Ambiance"

  • "The ambiance was cool but the waitress was rushed, frazzled & all around not focused on our service. Do not go there."

  • "The music was great, & the food divine. They even accommadated 3 vegetarians without batting an eyelash. The only problem was that we were given probably the worst table in the place. Almost behind the band, in a corner, where two of us could not see without turning our chairs backwards. We were also right against a speaker. It would have been fine if we were last minute reservations or were late, but we booked a week ahead of time AND there were empty 4 tops around the room with great views for all guests that stayed open until almost noon (we attended the 11 am seating). Request seats where all guests in your party can enjoy the music, NOT that first corner table on the right just behind the band & the wall! Food&good music saved the day."

  • "We came from a concert at the SF JAZZ Center, just 4 minutes away. Parked in the public parking garage below restaurant and walked up (elevator is avail.). Felt the energy and great vibe from the moment we walked in the door. We were greeted by the maitre d' and once our total party of nine had arrived, we were quickly seated. The decor of the entire restaurant/bar space was unlike any I'd encountered before. I loved the backlit photos (performers and just regular peeps) on the walls of a time quite distant in memory (40's, 50's and 60's). The wait staff were prompt and courteous, only to be outdone by the the very delicious food we all had. My meal was outstanding and everyone had similar comments for their meals. Dessert - yeah buddy!!!"

  • "The first thing I noticed was that the hostess was very friendly when we walked in and immediately seated us. However, we say there almost 20 minutes with no service. No one even came by to ask if we wanted water. We had to ask the hostess if we had a waiter. The person she talked to could have cared less, so we then had to track down a manager to finally get some service. After we finally got a waiter, the service level did pick up a bit, but still EXTREMELY slow! The best part of the entire meal was the cornbread which was delicious! We then had the shrimp hushpuppies, which were decent. Our entrees were the short ribs (which had a funny tasting sauce) and the fried chicken, which was just okay. Definitely not worth the price."

  • "Our party of 5 enjoyed every appetizer, soup, drink, and main dish. Service was impeccable and the scene was busy! Dessert was the only item that wasn't that great bit with everything else being fantastic this was easy to forgive."

  • "Had a large group dinner/meeting. I really appreciated the circle table so everyone could hear and speak with each other. It was also nice that it wasn't as loud as many other restaurants in the city. Service great as well!"

  • "On a trip to San Francisco we chose 1300 for a mini-family reunion. 1st of all, the ambience is lovely and transforms you to a different place in time. The service for the 8 of us was very attentive and helpful. Our server guided us through the menu, since this cuisine was very new to most of us. The Cocktails are very creatively prepared and delicious! We tried several different menu items and enjoyed them all, especially Their signature dish, fried chicken. All in all, it was a very nice evening. We will be back!"

  • "Special Occasion birthday with friends and the taste of the food danced on our palates. At first I was taken aback at the short rib expecting short ribs. However, that being said, the presentation and taste dissipated those concerns as i was full and satisfied. My friends all enjoyed their dishes too. Dessert was a bit of a let down but we shouldn't have ordered it anyway. We were too full. Oh and shrimp and grits appetizer was delicious."

  • "I had read great reviews about 1300 on Fillmore so I was expecting a little more. We started with the sea and swine. For the price you would expect more than a tiny scallop and small piece of pork belly. The pork belly was tough, but the scallop was delicious. I had the fried chicken entree and although the portion was a good size the chicken was on the dry side and the breaking fell off when you cut into it. Others had commented that it rivaled the fried chicken at Wayfare Tavern, but it definitely did not. My date had the ribeye and he thought the steak was delicious, but the pepper stew below it left something to be desired. The best thing at 1300 on Fillmore was their specialty cocktails and the cornbread they served before the meal."

  • "Valentines celebratory meal was a reduced pre-fixe menu. The so-called famous shrimp n grits (that "put them on the map") was under seasoned, and bland. However an abundance of cracked black pepper was ontop of the entire dish, making it not easy to eat. If you don't like, have allergies to, or just prefer no black pepper, either tell your waiter or avoid this place altogether. My main was also another "put them on the map" dish- fried chicken. The chicken itself was boneless, but the batter was not, I repeat NOT crispy. It was as if the chicken were fried previously and then kept in warmers for the evening as they were anticipating a big crowd. If you want soul food, call your grandmother."

  • "Booked table for valentines day weeks in advance. Seated us a half hour late, expensive per fixe menu was missing key items due to poor planning on restaurant's side. Rude, rushed waiters. Not going back here for any special events or special days."
