Always great food, services is fantastic - only downfall is the seating - uncomfortably strieght back booth style seating, "2 tops" are extremely tight/small, we both repeatedly bumped our elbows on the half wall next to us, & neither of us are large people. The seats for 2 are so narrow, taller & larger people will be uncomfortable.

I have NO complaints about the food - it's always an amazing menu with new selections daily and all the great "standards" that I tend to fall back on. Like the chicken or the pork chop. Yum. My only complaint is the noise level. I don't mind an "energetic" atmosphere, but when 12th Avenue Grill is packed (which is normal) it's VERY hard to communicate. Hence - it's not a good place to go for a romantic date or with a business associate when you need to discuss something. (The problem could be easily remedied with a few acoustic touches throughout...)

My 90-year-old astute, discerning mother enjoyed dressing up for a "nice" restaurant she hadn't tried before. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Extensive wine list for the connoisseur. Interesting menu; a spin on local fare, and some very different dishes. Worth a visit.

We had some out-of-town foodies to entertain, so we made reservations for a Friday night. We were seated right away. The waitress was friendly and helpful. We ordered the smoked ahi bruschetta & fried avocado appetizers. The former hit the spot, the avocado could have used another tablespoon of sauce. When we wavered about ordering a bowl of mac & cheese for the table, the waitress talked us into it - and we were glad she did. Crispy on top, very creamy and rich. Our guests, who ordered the Jidori chicken and the flat iron steak, cleaned their plates -- without offering me a bite! The only two downers were an overcooked pork chop and the bottle of wine not arriving until we were 1/2 way done with our entrees. Try to leave room for dessert.

We heard so much of this restaurant and have been waiting to get in on a Saturday night. The ambiance was nice but the place was super loud. The food was not as good as it looked on the menu. I think it offers a great option for those living in the area but I would not drive there if I lived outside of Kaimuki.

I always love how they cook Tako - very tender and moist. We try at home and it won't come out the same way. I admire it. Also thier beets salad has perfect balance of the ingredients. This is something that you can't have anywhere else. I like the fact the servers are very familier with the dishes. Our server Seth was excellent.

12th is one of those owner/chef establishments that make finding a new restaurant a pleasure. The menu is locally sourced meats and veggies combined into both comfort foods and pleasant experiments. They've forgone the million-dollar-decor of a tourist destination restaurant, and that's fine by me, because this is a neighborhood joint above the madding crowd of Waikiki. This is a crew that works hard to assemble great drinks, wines, and food without all the drama. By the way, the Sunday supper is a great dinner deal for two.

My friend and I, she is an ex-Honolulan, but comes frequently to visit family, have made eating at 12th Ave a semi- tradition when she visits. At the old restaurant, we had to plan ahead to get in, and were sometimes crowded into a corner booth with family and friends. She bemoaned the new, bigger digs, but I pointed out we might not have been able to get a table last minute at the old place! She missed the old coziness. But ...the Monchong was great, the greens I felt were salty, added to a salty side pasta... But the rest did not disappoint, as in PERFECT buttermilk fried chicken, perfect sides of haricot verde, mashed potatoes with white gravy...and a biscuit! Dessert? Panna cotta and chocolate Mac nut bread pudding. The BEST!

This was our first time at 12th Avenue Grill, and I must say the food was excellent. The soup of the day, a butternut squash bisque was wonderful. My husband's rib-eye was done just right and he was a happy camper. Not being very hungry that evening, I ordered a mushroom medley was was very nice. Their breads are excellent----my husband ate everything in the bread basket.

I have been going here since Kevin opened at his original location. I really like his food - the mac and cheese is the best i've ever had and the kim chee skirt steak is incredible - but his serving sizes are really shrinking. My husband ordered a $9.00 ceasar salad and it was so small you could count the leaves of lettuce on one hand. It's very good food, nice atmosphere, but just don't expect good sized servings.

Everything is worth trying! We could eat off the appetizers menu alone and be satisfied but don't limit yourself! The duck corn dogs were the most surprising winner, but we did not forgo our favs - ahi bruschetta and pork chop entrees. My daughter loved her fried opah entree and the kampachi with chimichurri was gone in seconds.

An amazing Bandol Tempiers that married the following awesome dishes: kappa hi crudo with Serrano pepper with chimichuri( everything in balance which is not easy to do) Rabbit loin with an aioli sauce as good as anything in France and we cook rabbit a lot) and Kimchi marinated skirt steak which again did not over power the steak and finally their signature pork chop. I honestly don't think I've had a better selection of dishes in my three years living on Oahu. We were wine educators formally from NYC.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and mentioned it in my reservation. We were sat at a 2-top awkwardly squished against the busing station and could hear the mindless conversations of staff. The ambiance was definitely lacking where we were seated. Now I know to ALWAYS request a booth. Perhaps management might look into cozier seating for parties of 2. Otherwise the food and service was excellent! Thanks Tony for the birthday dessert.

Our first time in the new location, and it is just fine. The food continues to be very tasty, the wine list expansive (more so for people ordering full bottles than glasses), and the feeling that of a serious eating (vs. "fine-dining") place. We had a beet gnocchi appetizer which was delicious except that it was way too salty. The chef uses a lot of interesting herbs so it was a surprise that he chose to salt everything (even the entrees) so heavily. The kampachi was excellent, the osso bucco not so much (dry and tough). The open kitchen restaurant was noisy, with sounds bouncing off all the hard surfaces. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal; okay for groups, couples, or families. Dessert was okay -- an interesting lilikoi mochi cake with gelato. And the service was excellent--friendly, informed, and efficient.

This was our first time in the new spacious location across the street from the previous smaller location. Service was excellent as our waitress continually refilled water and got us a second serving of bread. We mostly ordered the specials which on that day was short ribs and leg of lamb. All the meats were fork tender including the beef cheeks. Desserts were delicious especially the flourless chocolate cake as recommended by our waitress as her favorite.

This is our favorite Honolulu restaurant. We moved here after 20 years in Napa Valley so we are spoiled. Plate lunch doesn't do it for us. We consider this a BATH place. and that's good: Better Alternative Than Home. Kevin Hanney and his wife (chef owners) also have Koko Head Cafe for brunch and lunch with Chef Leann Wong, and SALT the best bar for cocktails and tapas. Hallmarks of all three are local food creatively prepared with super service. If for some reason you think you get bad service tell them immediately and Kevin and his managers will fix it. Creative affordable wine list -- with the occasional winemakers dinner. Watch for them.

In the service industry these days, it seems it is "rocket science" for many in that industry to deliver excellent, if at best good service. And if the service is bad, the whole experience is blown--for me at least. And usually the food doesn't taste good either At 12th Street Grill, they have it nailed: they deliver friendly, timely, and excellent service while plying you with their superb menu of tasty, local dishes.
