Diner Reviews
  • "Really really good food. Really inexperienced wait staff. Really poor acoustics. There are too many eatery choices to try this one again. Certainly fit for high end takeout!"

  • "Great food, service & ambience. Fideos and octopus salad appetizers superb - as were Guinea Hen and ravioli entrees. Excellent value for money."

  • "I find everyone at 1200 Miles to be so nice and accommodating every time I go and the salmon dish is amazing!"

  • "Read positive reviews about this restaurant before making a reservation with some friends this Saturday. We were looking for a place in this area with good and somewhat healthy food options. The place was much quieter than expected for a Saturday night, but the staff was friendly, the owner stopped to say hello and check in on us, and the food was great. The only complaint was that they told us they were out of one of the dishes which we were surprised about since there were only a few other people eating. Also, be warned that the menu seems to change by season since what's online isn't exactly what's available. Not a big deal, but if you're looking forward to something specific, they may not be offering it. Will definitely go back."

  • "I loved the atmosphere and the menu was interesting and enticing. We wanted to try everything. I decided on the fideos appetizer and my husband had the white asparagus salad. Both were superb! For dinner I had the celery root ravioli and my husband had the rack of lamb. Again, delicious. The braised shoulder roulade served with the lamb was particularly delicious. Our entire party was very satisfied with their meals. We will go back to try more of the amazing menu! Service was right on. The bar scene on the way in sets the tone for a fun evening. We had a really great time! I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "What a fantastic dinner I had with two friends at 1200 Miles. We enjoyed everything, from appetizer through to dessert. The charming owner even came by our table to say hello and offer a complementary glass of dessert wine. Best dishes: winter lettuces salad, salmon entree, lamb tajine, espresso/chocolate dessert. They have a thorough scotch and bourbon collection at the beautiful bar. Must try after work with friends, for a romantic evening with a date, or for a large party!"

  • "The decor, serve and food all excellent. Impresses by the creativity of the meal, excellent preparation. Tables are well spaced so no sense of crowdedness."

  • "Having walked by several times we finally made a reservation for dinner. The bar is lively but it quiets in the back dining area making for a comfortable noise level. The three entrees that we tried were all very good. The prices are very reasonable making it a great go to place for a casual meal or for a larger group. We will be back."

  • "Poor service will fail this place if it doesn't improve - and it's really such a disservice to the kitchen because the food was very tasty. however, from start to end, the service was missing: e.g. there were several times when there was NO server on the floor at all - then, when we finally found someone, they said they weren't our server and disappeared to get someone else; we had to ask for bread and oil - which was good (the oil), but we had to ask? literally, after 2 hours, we had only received our appetizers - way too slow. So, the good news is, smarten up on your service and you should be fine - the food was very good."

  • "Based on prior reviews I expected more exciting food. It was OK, but not great, really, better put, not special. Service was very good though."

  • "this place seems like it could be amazing, but felt a little under-managed. we weren't sat for our 9 pm reservation until 9:30, so we waited at the bar, which was fine. My wife and I waited quite a while for each course, and eventually left around 11:30, after maybe eating for a total of 20 mins. Our waiter was so polite, almost annoyingly polite. I had salmon but he never asked how well I'd like it cooked. Their Prix Fixe meal was reasonably priced and tasted decent. There were a few blunders by the staff, and extra long waits for food, but we had nowhere else to be. All in all, I'd recommend this place, but not for a special occasion, only for a casual dinner but on the nicer side."

  • "This is my go-to lunch spot without question. Good folks. Good food. Good price. Good wine. Clients are always happy after they have eaten here."

  • "This restaurant is still somewhat new to the flatiron district but I encourage everyone to try it. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is a wonderful blend of north african spices with french cuisine. My favorite dises are the lobster bisque, brussel sprouts (side) and the salmon. And there is a very nice catering/event room in the back suitable for about 40 or so people. My new favorite spot!"

  • "We booked Valentines dinner here. While some delays are to be expected on a holiday, we experienced the worst service failure at any restaurant, which completely ruined our Valentines day. The entree took over 1:45 to arrive, and only happened after the manager happened to check on us. He later informed us that our meal was the next ticket coming out of the kitchen, yet we saw others receiving our dish before ours arrived. Despite the major delay, the rest of the dinner (dessert and billing) were handled with no sense of urgency. To top it off, the waitress took our dessert orders at the beginning of the meal (as it was prix fixe), forgot them, then delivered the dessert menu at the end while informing that my selection was out."

  • "Food was good and well balanced. Excellent roasted chestnut soup, Pheasant entree was good, but a little bland. Chocolate dessert was perfect. Really liked that it was quiet enough for light conversation."

  • "I found this new restaurant while looking for a convenient place for Valentine's Day dinner. My husband and I had a fabulous time! Service, ambience, cocktails, wine and food were ALL FABULOUS! Very upscale quality, without being stuffy or fussy. Hip but classic. I can't wait to go back..."

  • "Made a reservation for their Valentine's evening menu. Every part of the meal was wonderful, from the very attentive service to the wonderful appetizer and main course. The Scallops were delicious and perfectly prepared, and the lamb was cooked to our liking and extremely delicious. I would whole-heartedly recommend!"

  • "I had a very enjoyable business lunch. It was our first time dining there for both me and my business contact so we didn't really know what to expect but were very pleasantly surprised. The deviled eggs and mushroom soup were especially noteworthy. And although I didn't drink at lunch I did note the excellent, high quality beer choices on the menu. I will definitely be back and look forward to having dinner there sometime soon."

  • "Lovely restaurant with a great bar scene and yet the noise does not interrupt the dining experience. Beautiful room in the back for parties (seats around 45 in back room I think). Food was wonderful - the salmon was amazing. Nothing pretentious or overdone about the service. We are definitely going back for more!"

  • "really LOUD. Service was nice but a little slow. Interesting menu. Octupus was great. Lamb tagine great also,"

  • "Love the North African food idea. Place is nice looking, but was empty. Never a good sign. Bar pleasant. Was seated in empty dining room. Service very nice, but a bit out of town. Menu looked excellent, but food was really not great. Lamb tagine was swimming in water/broth. This is a classic Moroccan dish I have had many times. It never has preserved lemons in it. Another diner had merguez sausage. They were tasty, but served with chick peas rolling around on plate and a small vegetable salad which was inedible due to raw garlic on it. Really was rooting for this place, could be a great neighborhood find, but alas was jut not up to NYC taste buds and quality."

  • "1200 miles opened in September. The menu is original, the food delicious and the room is lovely. It was very quiet the day we had lunch there, but I think it is probably busier in the evening."

  • "We have been eating North African food for years. 1200 miles serves the best of this cuisine we can remember. The chef's take is interesting, well-spiced, very tasty, and well presented. The staff is very accomodating and pleasant. The space is large and attractive. The tables are far enough apart to be comfortable. A real gem. Definately deserves a following."

  • "This is our go-to lunch spot. Good wine choices, good food (go with the pork/ham sandwich) and great staff. Only been open for a few months, but working like a well oiled machine."

  • "The food wasn't outstanding, but it was tasty. Very good energy. Energetic bar. Our waitress was probably the best server I've had in the past 6 months. Not a great place for a special occasion, but great for just getting out and grabbing dinner."

  • "The ambiance was nice and located in an easily accessible location. The service was excellent. The food was okay. I have had better tanjines. The lamb was good but somewhat overcooked. Really enjoyed the dessert. Would go back because I believe the food will improve."

  • "Disappointing is the key word. We were called twice to confirm the res. Why? We were seated at a great table and it was quiet, mostly due to a fairly empty restaurant on a Wed. night. The lamb sliders were SUPERB- our first dish. The artichoke/asparagus salad was a great idea- too much vinaigrette/lemon. The veg tagine was uninteresting and not very hot, the skate, tender, but not as sweet fleshed as I'd just had elsewhere the day before. The grilled octopus was lukewarm and a bit off in flavor. The young waiter was obsequious and tentative all at once, constantly asking how things "looked". My husband accidentally spilled his beer, got no help to clean it up (He was given 1 napkin) and no offer for a refill. So disappointed."

  • "Really enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating-my girlfriend is gluten free, and she got her own menu. The cocktails were delicious, food was tasty, and wines were decent. Will be back"
