A word from 10 Degrees South
10 Degrees South is the only restaurant of it's kind in the USA, specializing in South African cuisine. South African cuisine is a fusion of French, Portuguese, Dutch, German & Malaysian cuisines with strong Mediterranean influences. The restaurant was founded in 1998 in a small bungalow in Buckhead Atlanta. Six years later, inspiration was taken from the sophisticated & modern hotels of Cape Town to transform 10 Degrees South. 10 Degrees South offers the passion for life which means the love of friends, family, food & drink!Continued

  • "What a wonderful find. We took a visitor who is a Foodie from San Francisco. We were all very impressed. We definitely recommend this restaurant for special occasions and to treat friends to one of Atlanta's best."

  • "I remember when 10 Degrees South first opened and the Durban chicken curry was first class and inexpensive. Now? No substance."

  • "No atmosphere in the main restaurant : at 7.30pm we were the only ones being served. Food was good but served too quickly : not sure if they wanted us out or they had nothing else to do. Food had no little flavor apart from the pepper sauce."

  • "Poor representation of South African food, decor and ambiance. Music too load and unpleasant."

  • "While the menu and wine list are authentically South African, entrees were marginally above average for a fine dining establishment. Fish and meat were cooked nicely but flavors could have been more subtle & distinctive. Bobotje spring rolls were good. We were served by a very pleasant waitress who appeared it was her first night on the job. Tough to get her attention and took some time to get our bill. Meanwhile, the adjacent table had a waitress who knew all the dishes by heart. Restaurant did bring a nice complimentary dessert for my wife's birthday though. All in all, a decent though mixed review."

  • "Great place to have a great meal with awesome service. Recommendations were great and we enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. Would love to be there in the summer when they open the windows. I have had the kingclip fish several times and its delicious. We also had the escargot and grilled calamari and wine, and it all was soooo yummy. Highly recommend it."

  • "This was our second visit to 10 degrees south. We live 3 hours away and now plan our trips to Atlanta because we want to go to this restaurant. The food has always been exceptional and the service attentive."

  • "My experience here for a friends birthday was Stupendous! A neighborhood gem with a superb wine list."

  • "The noise level was extremely high and,the restaurant was extremely dark. I like to see what I am eating, I could not have read the menu without the flash light on my cell phone."

  • "The food was incredible as always! We got the sampler platter this time, which I haven't noticed before. It was delicious, enough food for all and a good sampling of different meats. The service was not so good, the waitress poured a glass of white wine from our bottle into the empty seat's glass at our table. Then when we got the bill, we were over-charged for several items. All was corrected, but it just shouldn't have happened."

  • "As a South African moving to Atlanta, I was thrilled to find a true SA experience in the city! My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful, quiet date night with fabulous wine, incredibly authentic food (the bobotie spring rolls, chicken curry and lamb chops were to die for!) and great service. We finished the evening off with a smooth dom pedro at the bar area while listening to live music. Save a seat...we will be back soon!"

  • "We had reservations. The other couple had not yet arrived so we were instructed to wait at the bar. It was so loud in the bar area it was ridiculous - had to shout to the person next to you. We got seated, finally, but not where we had requested (it was a special occasion). The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine, but that did not make up for the mediocre food. Definitely not worth the money. We make better lamb chops at home. The fish was just so-so. The beef was good. The ostrich stringy. Will not repeat"

  • "Made reservations for our after meeting venue, and could not have made a better choice. From the friendlyness of the greating, to the bar service, the meal, and service, could not have asked for more as a rap up of a day long meeting. It allowed everyone to relax and unwind and have conversations on the great menu selection of different types of food never tried before. Great exeperience!!"

  • "10 Degrees South remains one of our Atlanta favorites. There is nothing else like it. The South African food is a blend of many influences, and we're pretty sure there's nowhere else to get Beef Bobotie! First timers should try sharing a Safari Sample plus a beef bobotie (because the sampler doesn't include it!). It is a bit on the expensive side. We find the food always delivers and meets our high expectations."

  • "The food was good, but needed more flavor. The prices were above what we normally spend. We had the ostrich and the fish. We will go back and try different entrees."

  • "This is a great place for a special occasion and especially if you want to be introduced to South African cuisine. The food is great, the service good and the atmosphere good as well. Had the calamari starter that was very tasty as well as the safari salad with fresh fruit. The wine list is superb and we enjoyed having a Pinotage which is typical South African and not readily available in the US. The birthday guest in our part got a complimentary dessert which was very special. Can definitely recommend this place."

  • "The food was good - no complaints. I think they count on the sauces for flavor rather than the food. I had spring roll type things, one chicken and one beef. They tasted exactly the same - but the sauces were awesome. Food presentations are lovely - picture perfect. The patio area up by the bar is really cool (but it wasn't opening till 8 and we were there earlier). They had the outdoor heaters going. Tables but also outdoor furniture (couches/chairs). Very cozy. When we go back that's where we're going to sit. This is a great place for business meetings or special occasions, and the outdoor patio area is great for anytime."

  • "The only reason I would not give the ambiance a 5 star is that the restaurant is quite dark. We all had to pull out our cell phones so that we could read the menu. Also, when the dishes arrive, it is difficult to see what you are getting. Besides that, everything is wonderful."

  • "My dining experience included Ostrich for the first time and it was superb. All of the small plates as well as entrees we sampled were delicious. I would definitely dine there again."

  • "We like good food, we like good service, we got it both. The Ostrich medallions were perfectly prepared and the Sosaties was great too. Overall a great dinning experience, we'll recommend this restaurant."

  • "I've wanted to go for years based on what I've heard from friends. Calamari was great. Everything else was just average. Atmosphere and service were also very good. No big complaints just nothing blew me away."

  • "The restaurant is nice and the decor is very pretty! I have had almost everything on the menu and the food is consistently good! Main problem I had was that I asked the hostess if we could possibly move to another table and she said no that the entire restaurant is the same temp and offered outdoor seating with headlamps instead. I thought she was very rude about it especially considering the whole place was empty even when we left. I will not be returning again."

  • "I have made the reservation in December. They didn’t inform about reserving the table and location. The host explained 2 options either the table by the entrance of the restaurant or seat at the bar. After about 10 minutes at the bar, more tables became available. The host came over and asked is we wanted to seat on the one that became available however we have 75 minutes for dinner. Our waiter took forever to order a bottle of wine and bring our meals from a prefixed menu. We had to explain that our time was limit. Yet the restaurant was almost empty. We didnt understand the rush and the time limit."

  • "10 degrees is always a unique and enjoyable experience. The atmosphere is very intimate. PERFECT for a date or a close group of friends. There's a formal dining space, a bar area, and my favorite... a lounge area. It's all white linen and dark wood, candle lit, South African jazz plays while you dine. The ambiance definitely compliments the cuisine. The food is just AMAZING. I would highly recommend, no... I would DEMAND you to have the Lobster Spring Roll Appetizer. Had the Filet this visit. Its prepared in a Madagascan creamy peppercorn sauce that'll make you wish the meal would never end. The dish was perfectly executed. The Mahi in the Spicy Blue Crab Remoulade isn't on the menu, but if you ask for it, its DEVINE!"

  • "The ambience and decode were very fitting. We were excited they were open since Georgia had just gone through an ice storm and we had an early Valentine's Day DInner to avoid the crowds. The appetizers were small, but delicious: had the grilled calamari and the mussels, the sauces were to die for. Our entrees were equally as good, I had the Mahi Mahi Feature and my husband had the Curry Chicken which our waitress recommended doing spicy if it was our liking, great recommendation! Excited to go back. The only thing I can say was a down fall was the area where we sat. It was at the entrance of the restaurant and the phone kept ringing, next time we will make sure we make it to the back of the restaurant!"

  • "My husband had a couple of bussiness meetings at the restaurant and thought the food was very good and the restaurant was beautiful. We were looking forward to being there and celebrating Valentin's day so we made a reservation three weeks in advance. When we got to the restaurant promptly at 7:30 there were several tables open but we were seated on the outside of the restaurant, next to the front door overlooking the parking lot. Seeing that there were so many other tables we requested to be seatead somewhere else but the hostess, three of them, refused to move us saying that their whole reservation system woudl be "all messed up". We had a drink and had dinner somewhere else"

  • "We always enjoy our evenings at 10 Degrees South, and Valentine's Day was no exception. The service was prompt, the food was amazing as it always is, and the special Valentine's Day prix-fixe menu included exactly the favorite dishes that one would order anyway."

  • "The food was amazing especially the Babotie dinner. The prawns were the largest I had ever seen. Just as the server said - mini lobsters. Tip: You can request that they be shelled. They sat us near a window, which was quite cool at first, but the manager changed the heat for us to make it comfortable and if that didn't work, she would keep managing it until we were comfortable. Next time we go back, we are bringing friends and taking a limo. Overall, this is a finder and the portions were impressive. We could not eat it all!"

  • "My husband and I came here for our anniversary - we love trying new foods and restaurants. There seem to be a lot of run of the mill 'eclectic' restaurants these days vying for attention. This was an awesome find! South Africa has a number of melting pot influences, and they show up on this yummy menu."

  • "This was my first attempt at South African dishes, so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I came to realize was that the "sauces" and other condiments that come with most dishes were delicious! Food: Loved the small plates (Escargot were among the best I've tried, Boerewors and the Chicken Livers both great). The Rack of Lamb was well prepared, and although I personally didn't love it the Ostrich Medallions had a unique and different flavor. Good deserts as well! Beverages: The "“The Big Easy” wine went very well with our meal. And for the deserts I recommend their Amarula prepared "Don Pedro" style for a tasty and new Amarula experience. The restaurant may not look like much on the outside, but did offer a great dining experience."

  • "After some time, my wife and I made it back to 10 Degrees South and we realized how much we missed it. We brought friends along and introduced them to the menu by having a few courses of small plates - in my opinion, the best way to experience the variety of savory dishes. The service by their well trained staff was excellent as always. Definitely try the Boerewors, calamari and Di's Delight for dessert. Highly recommended."
