10 Degrees SouthGreat Restaurant!This was first time at a restaurant serving South African type food. It was delicious, for one of our entrees we got the ostich...wow! So delicious. The staff was very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable regarding the dishes on their menu. No problem, however, as we were ushered into the bar for a few minutes. After a chat with the bartender, and repair of a drink with bad tonic water, it was off to enjoy a delicious meal.
The small plate appetizers were tasty, especially the prawns. We tried also the lobster spring rolls. The only downside was getting the prawns out of the shell - a mild inconvenience, though. The lobster spring rolls, however, were overpowered by the roll taste, and not enough lobster taste.
The main course ostrich was excellent, and the sosatie beef, although a little spicy, was just as tasty. We can recommend both. I had previous great experiences with South African restaurants and 10 Degrees South did not disappoint. The ambiance in this place was awesome and the food was great! We decided to a lot if the small plates to get a good variety. The lobster rolls have a nice flavor. The rump steak was melt in your mouth good. The prawns were covered in a delicious lemon butter sauce. Overall, we had a great experience there. We shared a Safari Sample (lamb chops, sosaties, boerwors sausage, and rump steak) and a beef bobotie so we could give my co-worker a taste of many different things. The food is delicious and the staff friendly. The one request would be for more seafood options. We only dine on chicken and fish so we got one of each of the two seafood dishes offered on the main course. Everything was perfect. When I made the reservations I put in the comments that we were celebrating our anniversary. When we were seated (by a romantic fireplace) the waiter presented us with two glasses of champagne and told us Happy Anniversary. It was just the right touch. The food was good and different than what you will find in other places. It was great to break from the norm and still have a quality dinner. I ordered the chicken bobotie, which I was assured was not spicy. Wrong. It was so hot and spicy I really couldn't enjoy it. My server asked how it was, I told her, and she insisted on replacing it with something more to my liking. I got the elk, and it was great! Unrelated to that, the gentleman who appeared to be the manager (and who spoke with a South African accent) took a great interest in my wine selection, and helped me pick out something very unusual, and really nice.
