Diner Reviews
  • "We were looking for a quick, casual dinner. Everything was adequate...nothing to rave about."

  • "My food was served 10 minutes before my guest's--very annoying! Food was superb, as was my bellini, when we finally both got to eat. Also we were seated in a cold draft at first and when moved to another table there was also a cold draft"

  • "Good choice for ore-theater. Well prepared & did not feel rushed; food a little salty."

  • "Nocellol was recommended to us by friends who had recently dined there. They are originally from iNY so we trusted their judgement. The food was tasteless, the service was lacking but the tab was high! Sorry we wasted good money on bad food. I would never suggest this restaurant to anyone"

  • "We had reservations but did not need them. There was two of us and was ushered to a table we didnt like . The one table we requested was reserved. I would not go to nocello again. Many other good restaurants in nyc"

  • "This restaurant had such good reviews. But I would NOT go back. First, the ambiance (we sat in the front room) was Blah. Second, they put my friend and me at a round table for four in a corner that is essentially a thoroughfare for wait staff and people going to the rest room (ie, the table no one wants). Unless we sat in the thoroughfare, we had to sit next to each other like we were filming a TV show. When I asked to be moved, they were rude; the service got only SLIGHTLY better from there. Oh and it's not like they SQUEEZED us in. We had reservations! Finally, the food. We both enjoyed our entrees. Not wow, but good. And we were both disappointed with our salads. All in all, a bust."

  • "We have come here before a pre-theater lunch. Our recollection was great food, good service and a reasonable price (for the Theater District). Results this time: good, but not great, food. But, the bread was stale. And the accompanying dressings for the bread included spoiled oil (yet no vinegar) and a funky olive/olive oil/paste that was inedible. Table service (despite the fact that the place was half empty...my advice, never sit in the front window behind the column that separates the dining room from the front room), was slow and sloppy. I asked for butter three times and it did not not show until late in the third act. May give this a try in the future but, there are too many other choices in the immediate neighborhood."

  • "Overall food was good. Especially enjoyed was ossobuco and deserts. Nice reasonably priced wine list. Lots of choices for both appetizers and entrees."

  • "I was able to get a reservation for dinner in a short time frame before a show on broadway. We were seated immediately, and provided excellent service from all the staff from the time we sat down until the time we left. Very genuine Italian feel, and the food was excellent right down to the Creme Brulee!! Very cozy and intimate place for a nice dinner for two, however if you have a large group you might be cramped."

  • "Nocello was recommended by a friend and it turned out he was right. Really good food and wine list. Draft beer was very cold. Server could have been a little more engaged but was otherwise adequate. Seating was small but felt more intimate than cramped. Would go there again. BTW, cocktails, wine, dinner and after dinner drink was under 250.00 for four people. Not bad especially for NYC"

  • "Food was good, but for such a large restaurant it has only one small men's room and one small ladies room"
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "I enjoyed a delicious two-course lunch--roasted vegetable salad followed by chicken breast with sundried tomatoes and artichoke hearts in a white wine sauce served with a hearty bread--at a very reasonable price. I got there right when they opened so they were still getting organized for the lunch crowd but once things settled down, the service was warm and attentive to a solo diner. The Roundabout Theatre recommended 1 Nocello and I was not disappointed."

  • "A lovely meal before seeing a show at Studio 54. Service was very attentive without being overbearing. Softly lit but not too dark; natural light from the skylights. Not noisy and although every table was full, it seemed calm. Food was very good; we intend to return."

  • "Really lovely place with excellent food. Went for a pre-theater matinee lunch. Excellent crusty bread, great olive oil, sizable tasty salads, and perfect pasta, al dente with fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella. Go!"

  • "We have been dining near Nocello for years but finally stopped in. We had excellent food, in a pleasant space that allowed us to catch up with our friends before going to the theater. Reasonably priced. We'll be back!"

  • "Close to most broadway theaters or Radio City Music Hall."

  • "First time at 1 Nocello....would definitely return...good menu variety, attentive service, very good food, and not too noisy...a winner in my book!"

  • "The menu looked promising. Salads were pre-prepared, soggy and i found some brown lettuce so not a good start to the meal.. But pastas were good. Dessert too. Good value for the money..."

  • "As always, Nocello is a wonderful place to dine before going to a Broadway show or to Lincoln Center - great food, reasonable prices, friendly service. We have been going to Nocello since literally the week it first opened, have celebrated many special occasions there, have enjoyed many a pre-theatre dinner there, and have never been disappointed. The veal dishes are especially satisfying, with tender cutlets and fine sauces."

  • "Truly amazing place to have made us happy even though we arrived in the middle of a torrential downpour and were drenched to the bone. Mussels with a lovely sauce and my husband's minestrone were delicious starters followed by rigatone with sausages and linguine with clams, both of which were totally satisfying. Because we had theater tickets we had no time for dessert but did have a quick and very good expresso. We'll be back very soon."

  • "We expect to have a 4th, a 5th and many more. It is a wonderful place for pre theater dining. They fit a lot of people, but in small areas so you never feel like you are in a huge place. The wait staff couldn't be nicer. The food was lovely as it has been every time. If you have never been, you should go. My husband is a photographer and we also enjoyed the many lovely pieces hanging on the walls. Someone cared enough about details to make a beautiful gallery for their patrons to enjoy."

  • "Went to 1 bocello after a play. Staff was very nice, recommended a terrific wine and helped with entrees. We'll certainly visit this restaurant again the next time we fly into NY."

  • "We had a large group of 11 and found Nocello to be the perfect location. They accommodated the group with ease while providing excellent food. I had and loved the Rigatoni Imperatore and the Osso Bucco but was also jealous when I saw and tasted several other dishes. Everything we had was tasty and well done. Bravo."

  • "We had been to Nocello previously and loved it. We were not disappointed on our return. Dinner was wonderful. My husband had a chicken dish and I had their shrimp scampi; they were both delightful. The prices are somewhat high, but the food is worth it. We highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Very pleasant ambiance, good food & service. Quiet enough to talk!"

  • "Disappointed at the selection and the food was just ok. We had hoped for Northern ITalian but did not care for the combinations. Not the restaurant's fault but we were seated next to an incredibly loud party that ruined the evening. I would think the host could have been more mindful of guest's comfort."

  • "We chose the restaurant based on it's location. Next time, we will choose based on the food, service, and ambiance. Thank you!! We really enjoyed our dinner."

  • "My husband and I both ordered house specialties with walnuts (hence the name of the restaurant), yet both dishes had exactly 2 walnuts each. And, for my dish (pollo nocello), the walnuts were the only items on the plate that had any taste. I used a lot of salt and pepper to try to get *some* flavor, but even then it was very bland. My husband's dish had some taste to it, but he thought the taste very average. The waiter noticed I ate very little of my meal and asked why. I told him that it was tasteless (and awful), and he said he would tell the chef. Neither the chef nor the manager spoke to us about (quite possibly) the worst meal I've had in NYC, and they charged us for it, as well. "

  • "This is very traditional (i.e. rich) Italian food, but very tasty and well-prepared. Service is, again, traditional, but very nice. Great choice for bEfore a play."

  • "We return to 1 Nocello whenever we come to the city for a show in the fifties. It's a friendly place with wonderful food and new specials daily. I've never had pea soup with potatoes before, but it works really well."

  • "This was a great find -- food and service were excellent. Very attentive staff."

  • "Friendly, caring staff; wonderful soups and pastas; very convenient to theaters. We arrived early for our reserxation, and in spite of a packed house, we were given a terrific table."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "Not sure how they keep prices so reasonable for large portions and good food. And ambiance is old NY in basement of a townhouse. This trip introduced New Yorkers to this find. "

  • "Found the restaurant on open table and was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. I highly recommend the artichoke appetizer. I just wish that they had a gluten free pasta . "

  • "It was just okay. Would have preferred to go back to Circo instead before going to theatre."
