A word from 041 Bacaro
041 Bacaro, in the heart of Downtown Culver City, offers Northern Italian cuisine in a casual and unique setting. Service is bustling but never rushed, in the true style of the Venetian bacaro, a tradition with over 600 years of history. Proprietor and Chef Giovanni Zuanon, a native of Padova, Italy, began his culinary career in Venice's famous Harry's Bar, and brings the authentic dishes of his home to your table at 041 Bacaro. Meet friends or bring a date for a small dish and a glass of wine, Venetian style--sip some prosecco and try this...then one of those...and so on--or enjoy a multi-course meal. 041 Bacaro features a full menu of cicchetti (small bites), pizza, pasta, risotto, meat and fish. All pastas and pizzas can be made gluten-free. A selections of wines, most from the Veneto region of Italy, are available by the glass or bottle. Perfect for before or after theater or cinema in Culver City.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The place was understaffed, so perhaps not entirely their fault. But our meal was a disaster. Spotty service; no one seemed to know what was going on. There was a bigger party eating near us... they got vastly more attention than we did. Only 2 of the 5 dishes we ordered were prepared with any skill or care. We had a vegetarian among us; there were virtually no vegetarian options. After our server all but talked us into getting a dish of pasta with white asparagus, it arrived with no white asparagus, but broccoli instead. They could make a pizza (poorly) with broccoli rabe, but claimed to be unable to put said broccoli rabe into any other dish. Bizarre. We won't be back."

  • "We arrived for our reservation on time and we could sit wherever we wanted because the place was more than half empty. We then waited for 25 minutes and only managed to get water and menus which seemed like an inconvenience to the only server in the place. The clincher was when 4 people walked in and the waiter took their order as they sat down! So we left, walked across the street to fords filling station where the only waiter there provided great service and the food was delicious!"

  • "041 Bacaro is a true gem. The chef, Luna, is always incredibly welcoming, and her food can't be beat. The risotto is to die for, and the pizza and pasta is always fantastic. And the desserts! Wow! The chocolate hazelnut bombolini (not sure if I got that name right) is one of the best desserts I've ever had. Even just a scoop of vanilla gelato is something special there. I'll definitely be going back and would highly recommend Bacaro to others"

  • "I made an Open Table reservation, and then when I went to the restaurant it was closed. I didn't get to actually see or eat anything so I made all my judgements above in the middle. I still would like to try them, but it was unfortunate that Open Table would allow me to make a reservation to a restaurant that was closed for the evening."

  • "My bf and I took my parents to this place for Valentine's Day. They were visiting and that date is also their wedding anniversary. I really wanted it to be special, so I trusted some reviews I'd read of this dreadful, awful, terrible place. Although we had a reservation and were on time, we had to wait +15 minutes. We were seated at a picnic table like thing with benches, which were so low my chin was almost on the table! (and I'm tall!) Took +20 minutes to place our order, another 30 to get first course. And it was INEDIBLE! Saw many others take one bite and not a 2nd. Rest of the meal was badly prepared. They forgot the wine for the pairings. Dessert was stale and dry. I can't say enough bad things about this place. AWFUL!"

  • "Wanted to enjoy this meal, but the food was disappointing. While the duck pappardelle description interested me, in execution, it fell flat. Not flavorful enough. The salad - same as well. Even the tiramisu was not as expected, so overall, I don't plan to go back."

  • "We recently dined at 041 Bacaro. We had some out of town friends visiting, and wanted to find a spot in Culver City that had good food and a fun vibe. We called to make a reservation and were pleasantly surprised that they allowed you to bring your own wine, without corkage fee - WOW - so that was really a bonus. We had an 8 pm reservation and glad we did, as it was almost full when we arrived. We got seated immediately and relaxed to wait for our friends. We ordered the antipasto to share and all had something yummy to eat. We enjoyed the wine we brought and had a lovely dinner. The restaurant did not rush out off and in fact, sent out some complementary desert at the end of the meal. Totally would go back and would recommend it!"

  • "This place is never very busy for lunch but I always get the best food and service. Check it out. You won't be disappointed."

  • "If you desire zesty Italian sauces with lots of tomatoes, this is not the dining spot for you. But if you have visited Venice, Italy, and enjoyed the lighter, milder cuisine, then you will love this place and its menu. Our entrees were delicious and well-seasoned. Raviolis listed on the menu flavored with sage were served with real sage leaves...a great addition. The homemade bread is outstanding and thankfully, served with olive oil instead of butter. The servers were very knowledgeable about each dish and were very friendly and attentive. We really enjoyed our dinner and will definitely return."

  • "It's a pity that the lackluster service outweighs the food. Standing alone the food is pretty decent. But when you don't get water for 20 mins and you don't even meet your server/waiter/waitress and the hostess turns into the person you order from, there's a serious problem. By the end of the evening, we still don't know who our primary server was. Be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait."

  • "The restaurant was buzzing with activity for Valentines Day. There were probably too few servers for the occassion as all wait staff was constantly running. There was also a long delay betweem courses. We had the lobster bisque which was heavenly, then we had some risotto with rose water, it was good but the whole peppercorns were not necessary. My bf had the duck leg and it was perfect. Then the salmon with rasberry sauce course came along and the salmon skin was so crispy and delicious. The dessert was over done and somewhat dry but again, I think it was bc of the holiday. Overall great food, will give them another chance."

  • "I read the reviews before I went, and I'm glad to be able to say those who praised the food were right--it was excellent. The service was good overall, except for our dessert--the chef forgot it. She came to our table to apologize and comped it. I'd definitely go back--the pappardelle with duck ragout was amazing, and the rest of the food was excellent too."

  • "My family took me here for my birthday, first we were sat a a table by the kichen door, 6" from the next table. The table was wobbly and my wife had to sit sideways because the art piece on the wall protruded about 6" from the wall and the table was tight to the wall. My daughter ordered a PLAIN bowl of spagetti with olive oil, which we were charged $18 (the most expensive of the 3 entrees we ordered) I ordered a chicken dish that was so dry I asked for a bowl of marinera (which never came). My wife ordered ravioli, which she enjoyed (hence the two stars). however the fork she was given had bent tines and reminded her of flatware in a college cafeteria. We actually went to another restaurant across the street for dessert. I have more, but.."

  • "Our waiter seemed to be much better at bussing tables than at doing his job. He brought my wife a cup of hot water and no tea bag. The water got cold (since it wasn't in the pot where it belonged), so we had to ask someone else for new water. This time she got a tea bag. After more than an hour, people who had come into the restaurant after we did were being served. So I asked a different waiter. The food then came very quickly and was quite tasty, except my wife's risotto, which was bland beyond belief. Her vegetables were overcooked. (And she was the birthday girl, which they'd forgotten!) The good news was that the restaurant paid for the meal, in compensation for the disastrous service. The original waiter never apologized or anything."

  • "Took date here the other night to see what the food was like here. They're fairly new and are next door to Rush Street. It was 8:30 pm on a Monday and no one else was there when we walked in. This was a bit jarring at first, but the waiter made light of the situation "Where would you like to sit, I have room!" so we felt more at ease. The food was great. I had a risotto with mussels and clams while my date had an Italian sausage pizza. The only con about the night is that they only carry Italian wines, so it was difficult selecting something nice I love a nice Malbec or Merlot. The waiter made suggestions and even let me taste a few before ordering so it all worked out. I'll definitely go back here."

  • "Food was pretty good in general but not exciting. Service was ok, a little slow but food came out a right temperatures and the server warmed up a bit and got better as the meal went on (though never got around to re-lighting candle). Only four other tables there on a Weds night at 7:45 so not noisy at all. Great Brazilian music c/o Pandora. Since there are many great Italian restaurants in town, probably won't go back. Oh well."

  • "3.5 if I could put half stars. We went early on a Friday evening. The restaurant was quiet and the service (and kitchen) was very efficient. We did not encounter the wait that some reviews complained of. Maybe it was our timing. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Wine suggestion was quite tasty. The food was very good -- both the gnocchi (her) and the pappardelle with duck ragu (me). Overall a pleasant place to dine. We will go again."

  • "Was looking forward to a good New Year's dining experience. We were a party of 3 and ordered an antipasto for $19. It was skimpy. Had one small piece of cheese and a few other items - not worth the price. Had to ask several times for bread and told that the bread would come After we ordered the main course - still had to wait for it. Between courses, the waitress took my silverware and never brought replacements. Again, had to ask and had to wait. The restaurant was not filled at that time so I see no excuse for the poor attention. The main courses & desserts were well prepared, tasty and portions were decent, except for the mussels/clams in my dish which were tiny and not very moist. I wish I had a better review. Sorry Baccaro."

  • "Mediocre food and worse service. The recommended pumpkin ravioli was bland and tasteless. Our meals came out at different times and ranged from mediocre to poor. The ceasar salad had extra salt poured on top in addition to the anchovies so it was almost inedible. The bolognese and duck ragu pastas were not very good. I could have made them both better at home. The arrabiata was decent. Also, the seats for tables that sat 4 people included a very worn out bench for two on one side of the table. I felt like I was a kid sitting at a table that was too high. For the price, I expected much better. Maybe we hit an off night (Saturday between Christmas and New Years)."

  • "Our food was placed at the next table for 5 min. until they complained, 2 appetizers were not the ingredients described on their menu yet they insisted it is " their way " . The place was one room but there was no way to get the attention of the staff unless you got up...and when time came for dessert the waitress said, " You really are too full for dessert aren't you " saying NO we ordered 2 desserts and waited over 20 minutes , no coffee no nothing and the staff has no eye contact in a place the size of a Subway, I got up to tell her to cancel dessert ,She said that was a very good idea but to please wait and pay the bill like we were skipping, as we left the manager opened the door and said... Sorry about the dessert we didn't have."

  • "Bacaro (not sure what the 041 is for) is a lovely little restaurant in downtown Culver. I was pleased they had our reservation without any delay on such a busy weekend in December. The waitstaff is very nice. However, I'd have to say the food was just okay. The specials of the day sounded great but were priced about double the cost of anything on the menu. The meals the 3 of in our party had were good but sparse, I found the all-fried calamari & vegs a strange entree and when we asked for cream for the coffee they said they don't have cream; but they did have milk in the end; thought this was a bit weird in this day. None-the-less, the environment is very pleasant; the noise level is not overbearing; we could actually hear each other!"

  • "Lovely intimate and cozy. Great food and homemade pastas. Pizza was huge and easy to share. Thin Italian crust. Bread was outstanding!! Crispy and warm. Desserts were all homemade and wonderful. Also, the coffee is brewed individually and worth waiting for. It's great. We will be returning soon."

  • "The food was very good but honestly when the restaurant is full the noise level is painful. We couldn't wait to get out. When I mentioned the level to the hostess she just recommended that we come back on a different night (not a Saturday). Sitting outside, when the weather is nice, would be my recommendation."

  • "The squash blossom appetizer was the perfect beginning. The wait staff was informed and prompt, without hovering. My wife loved the trout and was impressed with the duck ragu on the handmade pasta. This is the second time we have enjoyed this neighborhood gem. We look toward to our next visit to try something new again."

  • "The artichoke was a bit chunky in the baby artichoke salad, but the papardelle and duck ragu was rich and delicious, and the branzino filet was moist and quite savory. The servers were very attentive and helpful in making selections. A nice spot for a quiet dinner with someone special."

  • "I really couldn't believe italian food could be this bad and overpriced -- particularly after reading al the the positive yelp reviews. The ceasar salad was drowned in dressing and tasted like romaine lettuce with mayo. The caprese salad fared no better -- cherry tomatoes that were either underripe or overripe, and bland mozzarella balls. At least it looked nice on the skewers. The bland linguine and clams had the smallest clams I have ever seen. And the grilled salmon was just terrible -- drowned in a red sauce, with a pile of spinach in the shape of a tuna can. All for a total of more than $100 with tip. I couldn't even look the hostess in the eye when she asked "How was your food?" Ugh, never again."

  • "Romantic little spot in culver city. Our server was really friendly and patient. My fresh pasta w/ duck ragu was fantastic but my husbands lasagna was OK. I loved our wine selection and since dessert took a while, our waiter surprised us with another glass! The wait was worth it as dessert was light and sweet. Great service and I'll be back to try some other dishes."

  • "This was a great find for a dinner and a show over at the Kirk Douglas theater. The specials had great variety and all sounded delectable. The service was nice, and the decor was pretty sweet with the textured painted walls and art all around the restaurant. I would say the only miss was the music in the background. Really strange oldies mix-didn't quite go with the vibe of the restaurant. If ever we make it back to Culver City, this will be a top choice!"

  • "Enjoyed our dinner at 041 Bacaro. Had a nice bottle of Italian white wine and well-prepared veal dish for dinner. Atmosphere was very nice bistro-ish. Service was good. We were going to Kirk Douglas for a play that evening, so proximity was great. Service was quick and we were left with a few minutes to walk around Culver City, which was nice."

  • "We were celebrating the engagement of my best friend and I wanted a local restaurant. We started with the Squash Blossoms which were superb! Even the bread served had a crisp crust and nice chew inside. We also ordered an insalata di casa and fritto misto. Both were perfect to begin the meal. Service was both attentive and informative. The water was consistently delivered through the meal without request. For the main courses we tried some of their hand-made pasta, the pumpkin raviolis another winner and the branzino filet with the Italian Champagne sauce (prosecco) with delicious spinach as an accompaniment..We are looking forward to a return visit in the near future."

  • "Being Italian and finding good Italian food in LA it is sometimes difficult. This beautiful gem in the heart of Culver City gives you the chance to taste authentic Northern Italian food. Nice selection of pastas and entrees. If you are looking for a rich tomato sauce taste, this is not the place for you. Oustanding was "Pappardelle with duck meat and the Ossobuco". Price is reasonable too."

  • "The food was actually ok but the extremely slow service ruined my dining experience. My friend got to the restaurant before me and waited 15 minutes before I arrived. She had been seated but was not greeted by a server until I had gotten there. We then waited another 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us...after we finished out meal, we must've waited about half an hour before someone brought out the check. The whole dining experience took almost 2.5 hours, which is fine if that's a diner's choice. However, in our case, it was a result of slow service."

  • "Finalmente, an Italian restaurant with Italians cooking and serving. We went on a slow Tuesday night and had superb service from Martino and the Chef herself. Food was very good as we shared small plates of Fior di Zucca and pomodori carpaccio and the ravioli special - pumpkin with a ragu. Very light as you would expect from hand made pasta. Martino let us try two different Italian wines and we went with an excellent moderately priced vino di Toscano. Can't wait to go back with the rest of my family."

  • "The wine list is amazing, we had a great bottle of Amarone. They also have great glasses of wine. The food is amazing. Appetizers, I wish they came with more than just 2 tostadas, but they are good size so definitely worth it. I love the buratta and tomato. The frito misto was great. The breading wasn't too heavy and it was not too oily - something that I absolutely hate. The seasoning was nice and not overpowering. I had the penne arrabiata and it was amazing! It had a BIT too much sauce, but I wasn't complaining. I just used some of the crispy, warm bread to mop up the sauce! We also had the bolognese - another measuring dish. It lived up to the high standards we have, so we will definitely be coming back!"

  • "WE ORDERED SQUASH BLOSSOMS FOR AN APPERTIZER. WE ENJOYED IT, NICE PRSENTATION AND TASTY. THE OTHER APPETIZER WAS CALAMARI, NOT FRIED LONG ENOUGH AND JUST AVERAGE. I ORDERED THE CHICKEN MILANESE , IT WAS POUNDED TOO THINLY AND DIDN'T HAVE MUCH FLAVOR. BOLOGNESE PASTA WAS VERY GOOD, RAVOILIS SLIGHTLY OVERCOOKED. THE WAITER WAS VERY NICE AND ATTENTIVE. HOWEVER THE RESTAURANT VIBE WAS NOT WELCOMING AND FOR A NEW RESTAURANT IT DEFINITELY DID NOT SEEM LIKE THEY WERE TRYING HARD TO BE WELCOMING. MANAGER WAS YELLING TO PEOPLE IN THE KITCHEN WHEN WE GOT SEATED. MOST LIKELY WOULD NOT RETURN."
